Brakes groan on release.

According to the brake companies it shouldn't be used anymore. I'm inclined to believe them. Though it probably doesn't hurt to do it it isn't going to help.

Not according to all brake manufacturers. Whoever said that was probably reasoning the wrong grease might be used or too much grease and if the pads get hot it might run onto the friction material. So the benefit is not worth the risk. A manufacturer rep might tell you a coolant, brake fluid or ATF doesn't ever need changed for example but that doesn't make it necessarily so. Anyway lubricating the contact areas isn't really always needed even where recommended.

Which brake companies? At least give us a name.

If Permatex doesn't suggest it for any application, why do they still make it?

Idk that's just what they said. I guess older applications maybe? Newer cars brakes don't need it. They make it because plenty of people will still buy it
