Brake Fluid Military Testing - DOT 3 v DOT 4 vs DOT 5.1

@The Critic

Yes my statement does make sense if you take a moment to understand what I am saying.

Most Dot3&4 do not perform like a 5.1, although they are interchangeable, meaning you can mix them with no adverse effects, but there will be a decrease in performance. Below is a snippet from Valvoline website and THEIR like product. Notice it does not meet the minimum standard for 5.1:

Clearly, the Amsoil product is superior to the Valvoline, and could be used in a 5.1 system, of course, but is not a 5.1.

I understand your position about 3/4/5.1 being interchangeable from a basic functionality standpoint. I was merely commenting on the Amsoil's dealer bulletin which states the product to be a 5.1 fluid and is actually recommended for use in all 3 applications (3, 4, 5.1).

As for why Amsoil calls the product DOT 3 & DOT 4 but recommends it for 3/4/5.1 in small print, I don't know. But I suspected all along that this is a 5.1 fluid given its Dry and Wet Boiling product.

Dont know, maybe to stop cross contamination with DOT5 silicone? It is confusing.
