I have a question about the Bypass Valve in oil filters. If the BPV is rated @ 12 lbs. and your vehicle has 40 lbs. of oil pressure at hwy. speed, does that mean that all of the oil bypasses the filter going to all of the bearings? If this is the case, the only time the oil is filtered is when it's hot and idling. can or will someone enlighten me on this? Thanks

Never mind. I see and realize it's pressure differential between input and output. Sorry had a BF this morning. LOL

The filter will only go into bypass when the pressure drop across it exceeds the rating of the bypass valve...generally when the filter is so clogged up that the oil cannot flow freely. If the pressure differential across the filter itself is low, the oil will be filtered no matter what the system pressure is.

See now that you figured it out... ;^)

Yeah. I'm a little slow this morning. Looks like a short Bus day.
