Hello,

I have been using BP Vanellus Global C6 15W40 for some time in a range of petrol and diesel engines.
With news of the ZDDP/Zinc issues and flat tappet camshafts, I have been trying to find out how much of this additive is in this oil.

I have contacted BP, but they were of no help.

Does anyone know the answer?

Thanks,
Bob.

I have just picked up a gallon of BP Vanellus + 15W40. My wifes parents live in remote farm country. This BP station is the last bit of civilization before heading into the land that time forgot. Since it is a major link fromt he interstate to the state highway andis the only way into this area it has a nice selction of products and is part truck stop. I have never seen them carry this oil before so I picked up a gallon to try. I will drop it in next summer after winter is over. THe BP site only has percentage of volume of ZDDP(.10) listed for the SAE 30 MCS I did not see a ZDDP liting for their 15W40 products.Do a UOA and we will get a rough idea of what is in it!

Thanks for the replies. I did find that document on the bp.au site, but I don't know what the sulphated ash number tells me. Is the related to the ZDDP content, or are you raising a different concern?

They market this oil as a 'fleet' oil, meaning it is okay for diesel and petrol engines.....

Thanks.

THe BP oil is great! I have used it also for a fair time. I have always like all of BP's products such as Visco 3000 and Corse Plus. Sadly ever since they bought out Castrol there Tech help is no good and they have started to knock the Zinc out of all the range. Visco is now down to 900 ppm of Zinc! last year it was 1300!

I wuld say that the C6 would still have around 1200 - 1500 PPM of zinc.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. Can I ask where you got your zinc numbers from, and which Visco are you referring to?? 2000/3000 etc?
Thanks.

Hi mate,

Yeah you can get a rough idea on the Zinc going off the Phos numbers.

If Phos is .900 then you can assume the zinc is with in 900 - 1000 ppm.

A few years ago the TDS showed a Phos of .1. I had a VOA done and the Zinc was from memory around 1200pmm.

They also knocked the Zinc out of Corse plus which I find strange because it's an oil based around the older style V8 engines and still has it's SH rating. But it still seems to work well so I still use it, just with half a bottel of the Comp Cams ZInc add in.
