Land Rover discovery 1 with a 4.0 V8. It has a leaky rear main. While maybe 1-2 drops hit the ground overnight. It’s leaking more than a mild seepage. Luckily it’s not noticeable on the dipstick during each interval currently…

I’ve been using a full synthetic 5w-40 diesel oil year round. Can someone recommend a high mileage oil that might help slow the leak down a little? Bonus points for something with higher ZDDP as these have a flat tappet cam.

Eventually I’ll replace the rear main. Given the transmission needs to be dropped I’ll rebuild that at the same time. So trying to put this off if I can!

Valvoline Maxlife HM helped slow my RMS leak on my Chevy 5.3 but I eventually had to replace the seal.

I know Valvoline has a syn-blend 10W-40 Maxlife that works really well. It basically stopped all of the tiny leaks from the seals and gaskets that are seemingly made of cheesecloth on my old Passat.

I had good luck with Castrol GTX HM 10w-40 (green jug, synth-blend) resolving the weepy RMS on my 98.

I had tried other brands full synthetic HM oils and they didn’t seem to help any interestingly.
