I just recently picked up a Amsoil BP80A filter mount off of largecarmanx2 on here and looking to put it on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 4.8l v8. Help me out here, should I use a sandwich adaptor for a feed source or is there another source I can tap into to feed the bp filter. Also, since I am new to sandwich adaptors, do I return the clean oil to the inlet of the s/a or plug it and return to the valve cover cap. I did some searching on here and it confused me quite a bit. Thanks.

Hmmm..you can just plumb it in:out with a Permacool sandwich. You need to check your post installation pressure. You may have to drill a VERY SMALL hole in the Permacool sandwich if the poppet relief cannot handle the flow. You can probably remove the brass nugget from the center thread if you set it up this way.

Otherwise, put a tee fitting where the oil pressure sender is and return it to the valve cover/oil cap.

Don't think the mentioned sandwich mount will work on these GM engines. The oil filter boss it right next to block, no clearance for adapter to fit.

I inquired with Permacool a while back and they told me you can't use them on this engine design, no room to thread on the adapter.

Your only option is to come off the oil sending unit or some other source to an oil galley. I asked a GM tech this am and he had no answer on where to tap in. The oil sending unit should he in back of engine, at firewall. I can't get in there easily on my GMC so I gave up.

I put a TPF on a Silverado with four wheel drive. It was a tight fit. The universal joint was very close. The Flex A Lite adapter had a center piece that was about 1/4" too long. The fender panels were not rigid enough to bolt the fender bracket to. I bolted a flat piece of steel to where the fender bolts on the passenger side of the truck. I bolted the filter to the flat steel. I had to run the hoses across a cross member as the filter was on the driver side. It was a 6.0 L engine. Both hoses hooked up to the sandwich adapter. It is always a concern when the relief valve is in the filter mount or the engine. The Flex A Lite has the relief valve in it. If the stock relief valve has a weaker spring all the oil can bypass both filters. One advantage to the Perma Cool adapter is it takes a filter that has the relief valve in it such as a Ford. Perma Cool has a relief valve plug that fits most older Chevy V8 engines. I knew the 6.0 was OK because the oil pressure was the same and both filters soon heated up. As a rule of thumb if you can screw a full flow filter on and you have enough room under the filter for the added length you can use a sandwich adapter.

Thanks Mike and ralph, haven't had much time to look into it too much yet. If it does end up being a problem with the swa I will use it on my cummins in front of the frantz filter.
