Our BMW 328i and X3 with N52 engines owner's manuals state to change the oil every two years if you don't hit the 10k miles on the oil monitor. Actually, the X3 starts counting at 15k, but I'm not going there.
Yes, lots of stories about BMWs using oil, mine don't.
