Bought my first commercial e-bike today

Now I wish I hadn't posted it.

I did have $6259 in my Paypal savings*. So I could take you guys out for burgers with the rest.

4.3% Interest, so I was going to transfer it anyway :p

Wow I thought the 1299 at costco was a good chunk o change.
I know someone who owns one. He needs a second battery to go thirty miles. You get what you pay for. My bike frame is easily a third thicker than his ebike.

I just purchased a Gravity Basecamp LTD27 for less than 300 clams.

I see all these doofs coasting uphill at 25 mph and shake my head

Might as well purchase a Honda Ruckus for 3k if you let the motor do all the work.
This is the typical bs now days from so many it shows who they are. They just so concerned about whoever but themselves such childish comments it's not worth wasting your breath on this type of people.

Why would that bother someone I don't understand I just worry about myself I could care less what someone else is doing.
Because bike trails are getting congested with so many people who haven't ridden a bicycle in ages, bought an e-bike and don't know basic rules of the road/trail or riding courtesy. This has always been an issue, and it's not always e-bikers, but it's gotten worse with e-bikes.

And Mountain bike trails which used to be nice and open because they were physically difficult to ride with big climbs, are now becoming more "accessible" to people who can't be bothered to get fit enough to ride up under their own power, thus more crowded than ever.

When it comes to the MTB trails, the sign at the trailhead says, "no motor vehicles". That e-bike has an electric _____ (fill in the blank). I'm all for accessibility, so I'm OK with an exception allowing e-bikes for anyone who has a handicapped placard on their car.

If it can move without pedaling it's not a bicycle it's an electric moped and should be operated under those rules. Are gas mopeds allowed on bike/walk trails?

@MRC01 hit the nail with a sledgehammer. See it on the rail trail and on the trails. I transit a rail trail to get to some good mountain biking. I'll hear one coming from behind or have one coming at me, seat low, handlebars at chin height pedaling at 30 rpms or not pedaling at all, motor at full boost going 20 mph. BS. Then there's the clowns on the real trails as noted above, and it's not just one. Not a fan. Agencies don't have law enforcement personnel to spare so it's unchecked. It seems like for every responsible ebike user there's a jerk.

If they aren't following the rules and laws, yes jerks. 100% agree.

But if they are, then you are a hater, pure and simple. You carry some malice brother, and you really should let that go. You can't control other people.

I do know what you are saying. I was not going to buy an ebike. At 65 I can pedal my bike just fine, but my wife and I want to cover some distance without a huge sweat. We will always follow the rules, and the only time I wish to go over 20 MPH is on our rural streets/roads where it is actually dangerous in some narrow stretches, that need to be crossed rapidly to avoid occupying the road at the same time as wide trucks and farm equipment.

I bought an ebike, big deal. Some of you are bound way too tight.

In many places on SINGLE TRACK trails ebikes are prohibited. It's a matter of not knowing the rules. On bike paths where the sign says "motorized vehicles prohibited" that does NOT APPLY TO E-bikes. Most local laws either allow e-bikes or imply their use on normal bike paths-both paved, dirt or gravel. These are two way pedestrian/ bike traffic, multi use paths.

If you look at my post(s) above I was very clear I own an "assist" e-bike that does not have a throttle. Yes-there are clowns out there that have throttle ebikes that are speeders and those people are making life difficult of those of us that have "assist" bikes.

I have rode my e-bike in California, Oregon, Idaho, Washington, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nevada, and Montana.

On edit-the argument for throttle bikes by those who are elderly or handicapped is that they use the throttle on a limited basis to either go up a hill or start from a dead stop ( red light) where otherwise these things would make it extremely difficult or even painful for them to ride.

Obviously people who play by the rules aren't a problem at all. Ebikes aren't legal on National Forest non-motorized trails but it's totally ignored. Every NF trailhead here has the no ebike/no pedal assist stickers on the trail signs. NF doesn't have people to stop it.

Pablo I like rules and try hard to follow them. I have a bell and use it, slow down and stop for hikers and especially dogs. As pointed out above there is a whole new group of people out on the trails who don't know or don't care about rules or trail etiquette and have the ability to go faster than every other legit user. I wouldn't call it malice when others negatively impact my experience.

There's always the argument for the valid use case, elderly, handicapped, etc. of course but they're not the ones creating negative situations. As always a minority try hard to ruin it for the rest and I'm seeing where I ride it's not just a few who don't understand responsible trail use, on the rail trails and in the woods.

@CKN, you've posted before about your ebiking and one would only hope that you're not blasting by hikers or going on trails not allowed. 😉

I don't go on single track trails nor ride at 20mph. Having said that-I have seen several skinny tires-spandex crowd (non e-bike) blow past me well in excess of 20mph.

Yeah yeah yeah the idiot who used to sell maniacal 3000W mid motor strap ons bought a brand new Cannondale e-bike.

https://www.cannondale.com/en-us/bikes/electric/e-mountain/moterra-neo/moterra-neo-3-c65372u

Had the cash sloshing around in my Paypal account, so naturally I used the Paypal card! Wife will never know. Wait I told her.

She got a Cannondale ebike from REI a couple weeks back. I looked at other brands but smalls all had 29" wheels. I don't want a 29" wheel bike!

I'll get to pick it up after we get back from Alaska.

That’s a nice bike, and I’m sure your wife will like hers. The two years of free adjustment and flat fixes are a nice perk for her as well.

Iffin I was spending $4K plus.........
