With my luck, it will probably be an overpriced piece of crud, but I felt like a risk taker this week

With the $50 off coupon on Advanced Auto Parts, and free shipping, it was $235 + tax. Compared to most other stores, this was a steal since most sites were charging nearly $100 for shipping alone.

The Hein-Warner jack that I bought several years ago is at my parents house, and I needed a second jack for my apt for when I need to take a peek under my car or go work on a friend's car. So, I figured that I get a cheaper jack for back-up purposes.

Does anyone else own an American Forge and Foundry 200T jack?

Yes they are Chinese made, but supposibly the company (AFF) is American based. There are no American made jacks anymore.Lincoln was sold off years ago,to the Chinese.

That simply isn't true. US Jack is still made in the USA from "100% American Parts and Materials" (quoted from their catalog).

Milwaukee jacks are made in the USA.

Weaver jacks are made in the USA.

That took me all of two minutes research to prove your comment wrong. It's a shame that people can't take a minute and make certain their comment is correct before posting something that is completely wrong.

To "peek" under vehicles, I always use ramps -- much cheaper/safer. I only use a jack if I have to pull a wheel. That jack does look nice. Free shipping is always a plus -- especially on an item like that. Let us know how it performs. Use stands.

Do you need the low profile? I hear you lowered your whip...

Let us know how the little wheels do on slightly rough surfaces. I chipped the lip of my garage concrete floor where it meets my dirt driveway hauling my 95 lb craftsman jack over the hump.

Agreed.

Tragic really

The last time I was in Discount Tire, all of theirs were AF&F. Their usage may be more intensive then yours...

Looks like a good jack!

The HF low-profile jack (duh it's Chinese) I got has been a great jack for working on both our cars. The whole jack slides under the cars just fine to reach the frame rails to use as jacking points instead of the chintzy "jack points" the spare tire jack sits in.

True, but durability is only one attribute to consider. The ability to lower the car slowly and smoothly, # of pumps needed to lift the car, etc are also factors to consider.

So far, I think this jack feels more solid than the Arcan XL35R from costco only because the pumping action feels more solid. However, it does not feel as high quality as my Hein Warner jack. Looking back, I don't know if it was really worth $250...

For Chinese jacks, to Harbor Freight I go. Same jack, less markup.

I got my HF jack for $60 back when they allowed 20% coupons to be used on jacks, and it's so far been very handy.

I sure hope that not all Chinese jacks are created equal.

I'd hope that too for your sake. I'd bet like everything, there are levels, even in Chinese jacks. I got a basic low-profile jack (that looks suspiciously identical to some much higher-priced jacks elsewhere), while you got what is hopefully a higher-end jack from a company with better customer support than "we'll replace it if it fails and you buy our protection plan" HF.

Anyone know a good site to buy those American made products? For something like jack stands and a jack, I don't mind paying more for quality and supporting American jobs. I just can't seem to find a vendor for any of them besides one site that looks like it was made in 1997.

If you're talking about US Jack, I just used email and telephone to contact them. They were super folks to deal with.

I'm thinking of getting the Arcan 3.25 Ton jack from Costco to replace several leaking and useless HF jacks that I bought 4 years ago.

I've got one of those. It's a very beefy, well made jack. And Costco's return policy is iron-clad.
