bought a 1999 Suburban 1500

I had a '99, but with leather. Good truck. Definitely worth putting a motor in it, IMHO.

Sweet old burb. Looks like a girls truck. Cow steering wheel grip and a hair clip on the visor.

Nice deal! Those were great vehicles. Always jealous of how things last in the south compared to up here in the rust belt.

It’s a 27 year old vehicle with a blown motor. I think you paid a fair price.

That's a slam dunk for you. Flipping it or keeping it? Those things were friggen tanks on tires!

My wife is deep into the hiring process for a property management position, It requires being able to pull a 3,500# trailer if needed but with a sizeable vehicle stipend.

If she gets the job...
Full rebuild of the L31 I have
Rebuild/upgrade the 4L60E
New U-joints & Carrier Bearing
Welded aluminum radiator, New Water Pump & Fan Clutch
Bearings in the 8.5" axle.
Check the front end out, Bilstein B6's
Front end & brakes
Michelin LTX's

If she doesn't.....I need a shop truck now that I sold my 2000 Silverado to my daughter.....It will get the bare minimum to make it road worthy, Remove the 2nd & 3rd row seats & bolt down a 3/16" sheet of steel with tie downs, storage for chains/rope/straps & Tool chest with basic hand tools & a couple mid torque impacts.
Dual batteries & a fuel transfer switch & plumbing to fill my mowers/pressure washer & vehicles that "Ain't got no gas in 'em"

Not that it matters in the least, but how are the door hinge pins and door check rollers? 😃

Win-win for the win!

3 of the 4 door are in like new shape....The drivers door is squeaking but still closes very well. All the door handles look original inside & out....The drivers exterior handle is busted where they all do but still works.

Was at Summit Racing picking up some parts & decided to browse the "scratch & dent" outlet store.....What do you know.....A new GM 4-bolt main, forged crank L31 crate motor with damaged valve covers for $4000.

I officially have more money into this Suburban than it's worth & haven't turned a bolt yet :(

The help at Summit wasn't much help getting it loaded into my old man's Yukon....Had to buy a 3 pound Milwaukee sledge to bust the pallet off the bottom, Then load up all the wood shrapnel....I didn't just leave it in the parking lot.

Must of been 120° on that concrete.......I was soaking wet on the way home!

Never thought I'd see a Yukon with a rear engine!

Did the valve cover damage occur before or after the purchase of said sledge?? :p

Am reminded of Finnegan's Garage where they build a big block while riding in the truck that it was going to go into. Guessing not quite like that!

The pictures don't work for me at work, but nice find. That generation was pretty solid. Intake gaskets maybe downside of the 5.7/350 Vortec when they went from 6 bolts to 4, and the 4L60e probably needs attention. But overall good vehicles, underrated.

A rental 4x4 example of that generation got me in and out of Tahoe one time when I-80 and US50 were closed. Kept going south on US395 from the Reno airport until I found a back way in on SH88/89. It was a mess, lot of snow, but we made it. Probably worked because CA does a better job of plowing, and you didn't get into the mountains on 88 until you were already into CA. We stayed right on the border in South Lake Tahoe, CA and right at the state line, US 50 was plowed on the CA side but on the NV side it was 3 feet of snow on the road.
