I need a Bosch 5.3 ABS module for a 1999 VW Passat. I can get a used one for about $150 or a rebuilt one for about $190 from Xemodex, which is supposed to be improved. I could have the one I have repaired, but I don't really want to wait the 3-4 day turnaround.

Any suggestions?

I had a Chevy ABS module repaired by ModuleMaster in Idaho. Cost was between $100 and $200, while a new module was around $1000.

I can't remember whether I drove the truck or let it sit, but the turnaround time wasn't a problem for me. The repair/upgrade has lasted 5.5 years so far, while the original part failed at 5 years.

It looks like they will repair yours for $160.

I rebuilt the ABS on my 91 318i. Used scrapper parts and they all worked fine. Not sure what kinds of improvements could be done, higher sampling rates?

I'd rather buy the rebuilt one. I have never seen a junkyard that could test a used ABS module to see if it functions correctly.
