What is the difference between the surface finishes Bondhus uses on their tools? Is it just cosmetic or does one really provide better protection?

They claim the finish is 14K so it should resist corrosion better, the plating is probably no thicker than what is used on cheap sunglasses so I would expect the plating on the working ends to wear off. If you don't leave them in a wet place the pro finish will last for decades.

I have both. The pro finish is just their version of a phosphate finish, which can hold a bit of oil in it if you’re so inclined, and is reasonably tough. But it’s not unlike any other black aloe wrench I’ve seen, including the ability to withstand rust, or get rusty.

The gold finish is pretty resilient as far as I’ve seen. It seems more rust preventative than a phosphate finish which can rust through.

I use my pro finish sets in lime, fertilizer, water, polymer you name it. Never had any rust problems. Unless you just like the higher finish I wouldn’t spend the extra money.

Bondhus is the only Allen wrenches I’ll buy anymore.
