Actually that is one of the reasons for the design. This is for their electric car, let’s not forget this is experimental prototype. All manufactures build and experiment with prototypes.
One purpose has mentioned in the links provided in this thread, white in the summer would cut down on electric use black in winter would cut down on the electric use of the battery pack.
Last but not least we all purchase something for individual wants rather than individual needs or else everybody would just be driving around in a $25,000 car
