BMW application- Lubro Moly 10-60

i own a bmw m3 and have been using the factory castrol tws motor oil which is a 10-60 grade.
the bottle is in german and have very little info on it, as well as Lubro moly race tech 10-60. (which is a replacement oil that i can get for half the cost through worldpac)

well my question is does anyone have an info on these two oils? or know where i can get some info?

i believe TWS is a group III oil as it is german and does not say synthetic anywhere on the bottle, and im assuming lubro moly is group IV or V as it says Full Synthetic (in german) and is a european oil

correct me if im wrong and enlighten me if possible... thank you!
FYI i run a 5000 mile oil and filter change.

I believe that European Union regulations do not allow group III oils to be listed as synthetic.

The Castrol TWS is not a Group III product. It is a Group IV & V synthetic. Shell also produces a similar product, Shell Helix Racing 10W-60, which is available through Ferrari dealerships and used in the Enzo.

The factory TWS 10w-60 is BMW Motorsport's racing oil and has extremely high film strength. BMW spec's it for "M" engines and if you use it you can ensure your warranty is secure and if there's a problem after the warranty runs out, you have a reasonable chance of getting a "goodwill" repair. You don't get these benefits with any other product.

If you buy TWS online from Pacific BMW (or other online stores run by real dealerships) it's about $8.00 a liter. That's about half what most parts counters sell it for, and it's cheap enough that you can just use it and ignore the alternative products.

I'm not saying other oils won't work - it's just that there's no point in trying them!

When I previously purchased the TWS/BMW Castrol R 10-60, the bottle had a 'peel-back' label on the back that had most/all european languages on it. Most products made in EU do. Look for an arrow at the bottom corner to peel back and look for GB/UK/US/USA or ENG (Great Britain/United Kingdom/USA or English). From recollection though, they just list a cancer and an environmental disposal warning. You're best to consult the castrol european website..eg. Castrol UK.

ok so with that being said, is lubro moly a decent choice for oil? my warrenty is long gone and these motors dont fail too often so thats not a concern, but i like the price of the lubro alot better than the price of the TWS!

Probably no one has ever run it around these parts. I say give it a try, do a used oil analysis at about 5,000 miles and adjust from there. Would be nice to see how it looks and how well it holds up. I've actually looked at this oil for my old Rover V8, it likes heavy oil as well.

so to my understanding, as long as the wear levels are low (as indicated by a used oil analysis) then it does not really matter if the TWS is actually a better oil, lubro would then be best enough for my engine and application (which is street/track)
am i correct?

That's correct. Give it a shot, shouldn't hurt anything and it may even be better. Have you done a used oil analysis on this car's oil before? Would be nice to get a baseline reading for the oil you're using now and the state of your engine.

im running TWS right now and have 300 mlies left on my 5000k oil change. i have a kit from blackstone in route to my addy.
i will do a used oil analysis on this castrol stuff then a used oil analysis on my lubromoly. i will keep everyone posted.
