I've alawys enjoyed bluegrass type music, and listening to "Song of the Mountains" on PBS just got me to thinking... where can I find some info on bands or artists which fall within this genre? With the electronic age as it is, acquiring new music to listen to is so easy- if you just know who to search for!

See if you can find Carter Family online, they play music here every now and then up the road in Hiltons,VA. As most know June Carter married Johnny Cash so he used to visit there also but they all have music online also check out Ralph Stanley,he has some great albums.

A few of my favorite bluegrass bands:

Blue Highway
Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver
Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out

Get on your streaming music service of choice and look for some bluegrass playlists. Once you've figured out which artists you enjoy, start looking for playlists specifically on those artists.

I use Apple Music and there are 38 different curated playlists in the bluegrass genre. I am sure you'll find something similar on Spotify.

A lot of artists who aren't from Appalachia are working in the genre. Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings come to mind, as well as Old Crow Medicine Show.

Try these...
The "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack

On the album is Alison Krauss, simply amazing voice of an angel.

She also produces and collaborates with others...
The Cox Family, "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow", and "Gone Like The Cotton"

She's also a mentor to up and coming musicians, here with 12 year old Sierra Hull...

Now nearly 25, Sierra Hull is beyond stunning...

Me and some of my motorcycle riding buddies go here a couple times every summer. It's free and features local artists. They have a beautiful modern museum and have people visiting from all over the world. Guests sit on a beautiful covered porch complete with rocking chairs, and listen to a free concert. It's near Galax,Va on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Tony Elman, "Shakin' Down the Acorns, Vol. 2" is 100% good tunes played on the hammered dulcimer.

I particularly enjoyed this song. In my mind's eye, it would have been perfect music for a Saturn car commercial (that dates the album). I could almost see a variety of Saturn coups rolling through the lush green Tennessee hills with this music in the background...

There's a playlist in the uploader's channel that contains the full album.
