Also on spiked HDL with Tuna which I do agree with from my experience http://heartdisease.about.com/u/ua/cholesteroltriglyceride1/How_Did_You_Raise_Your_HDL.04.htm

After reading about cholesterol I think I'll keep my LDL the way it is and my diet.

Some pretty good suggestions here. The increase in HDL is likely due to red meat. Mine stays around 90-95. Regular vigorous exercise (not treadmilling) will also raise HDL.

The other important number is trigs. If your HDL is high and trigs are low, then total is irrelevant. You can reduce trigs by cutting carbs.

As far as ldl, there are two different kinds. One is harmless, the other deadly. If your trigs are low, your ldl is likely of the harmless variety, but only a specialized test can tell for sure.

I agree 100% I have said that when they first started this [censored].

Go look at my numbers above.

I have a two to three egg omelet and three slices of center cut bacon almost daily for breakfast. I add some peppers, onions and portabella mushrooms and gouda cheese.

I don't think eggs are the problem many thought they were. At least not for me.

Is there a reliable/accurate home cholesterol screen kit available (like there is for blood sugar)? It would be very useful to be able to check once/month or other short duration to see results from lifestyle/diet changes without having to go to the doctor and pay for lab work.

They "question" the role of saturated fats and the role of LDL. They are saying not all LDL is bad but they are not able yet to verify which ones are and are not by "Testing". So..great..if we can't test further we assume (rightly so) that 'higher' LDL is bad bc we can't know which components are good/bad..duuuuuihhhh. Oh yea he's writing a book.

In the case of the second reference they question whether saturates are really that bad for you...noting that 'some' that eat saturated fats are not in the upper risk class. Nevermind that the majority that do eat lots of saturated fat "are" in the high risk class. again duuuuhhhh.

I'll stick with the recomendations of 99.9999% of cardiologists whose recommendations are that LDL is bad and Saturated fat is bad..thanks...

I think what they are saying is saturated fats(LDL) was used for the industrial complex to alarm common folks to have a fix it thing for the drug industry.

You need some fat it's common sense but if you see the diet of ancient man well all I CAN SAY IS THEY DIDN'T HAVE TECH(shelter, clothing) SO EVERYTHING THEY DID WAS hard work to survive, there body chemistry was always in motion not being lazy or they wouldn't be able to survive. They aren't stating the common sense on that one, maybe to hunt your food your body chemistry changes so the need for ancient diet was adapted in geographic areas?

Coconut oil http://www.coconut-oil-central.com/coconut-oil-rickets.html which I consume daily because it's a normal thing in the Pacific Islands(sun). Is coconut oil a saturated fat a bad thing?

I think you are confusing the two articles. LDL has both good components and bad components. When you can't tell which is which and you can't lower it or at least get your Total/LDH better than 5 you need to reduce it. Thats is proven.

The second article deals with your information below:
This flies in the face of accepted knowledge. on a muchmore demonstrable scale. Frankly I chose to believe the mainstream data. Coconut and nuts are different than animal saturated fat. And BTW cave men were dead by age 40.

Need to also think animal diet was a natural thing which makes today's commercial animal diet not a natural thing.

Example wild pigs diet(today in the wild like here) that feeds on veggie and roots has a far less fat content than industrial diet(man made). Like wise as with other animals. Stating ancient man's life span was at age forty there were external survival dangers that can't be debated reason for the short life span, not on their diet?

I like to take bits and pieces...reason is I did witness people that live the same for thousands of years untouch in their diet and lives with no industrial contamination ... it has awed me to this day, there seem to be a reason we can not fully understand but how human beings that had adapted in geographic areas.
