Blackstone Labs Turnaround Time?

I realize that it would not be possible to have a specific time frame, but what is the typical turnaround time for a used oil analysis from Blackstone? I shipped them a sample via USPS First Class and they have not received it as yet (I know this is a USPS issue), but I was wondering about others experiences. I did not ship the bottle "in the open", instead I inserted it back into the cardboard roll and used a new computer printed label on it.

What is your typical roundtrip on a used oil analysis?

Mine was like 3 days .And we are probably just over a 100 miles from them here in Ohio. And that was me taking it straight to the post office

If you want the post office to get it there quickly, you need to put it in a small cardboard BOX.

When you ship it in a tube, and the Post Office figures out that there's some sort of liquid inside.... it will take a LOT longer to get there.

1) Put it in a small cardboard box.
2) Ship it to "Blackstone"... with no mention of "Labs" or "Laboratories" on the label.

It will arrive at Blackstone MUCH quicker.

They'll usually test it the same day, and promptly email you the results, if you gave them an email address.

I've always just used the black plastic container they give you and drop it in a drop box. I always got my results within a few days (< week) but this most recent one has been nearly 2 weeks with no results. Maybe I'll try a box going forward.

Mine took about 28 days. I was sure it was lost. It was sent USPS first class.

I've had it take up to 10 days from the time I placed the sample in the mail (never done anything but take their mailer and put postage on it) to as little as 4 days.

Excellent service from them always. I've spent some time talking to them here and there over the years and glad to use them for my used oil analysis.

I always spend a few extra bucks and FedEx it (not necessarily overnight, ground usually still beats USPS). Less hassle with someone thinking "all oil must be hazardous," and you can track it. I actually use FedEx or UPS for just about everything other than letters- USPS has shredded too much of my property.

If it's taking more than a week there is something amiss; I've always gotten my results by email within 5 or 6 days of mailing.

I'd shoot them an email, they're usually quick to answer.

440 - I agree with you there. I will ship the next one via Fed-Ex ground. As employees, we get a huge discount at work for shipping and I do not have to stand in line at "stamp world".

Sometimes the postal sphincter fairy views the plastic container ..which is marked liquid ..as low hanging fruit in justifying their job as guardians of our safety in using the USPS system. So it sits in quarantine for xxx days until some time frame expires. They then send it through untouched (speculation, they may irradiate it for all I know) to Blackstone.

I've tried to mail from the city but usually end up in an argument w/manager b/c oil is a hazmat to them for some reason. if I sent from my local PO no problem, walk in pay and go.

Good to know.. I just sent in my first sample on monday. I used the black plastic tube and put it in the drop box at the PO.

I received the results today; took about 4 weeks. I will send it via next time I ship it out. As soon as I figure out how to post a JPG I will post the UOA in the appropriate section.

Anybody know the turnaround times as of late?

USPS says my sample was delivered last Saturday. I've never used Blackstone before so I don't yet have an online account to check my results. Presumably they e-mail the report when it's ready?
