Black Friday sales better or closer to Christmas

Well, I learned last night to avoid getting to a store just after the big Black Friday sale starts. Wife sent me to Toys-R-Us for the 10:00 o'clock sale. Got there at ~10:15, boy was that a mistake (I should have known better). My arrival was timed perfectly with the peak line length... Of course, by the time I finally get into the store, what I was sent for was long gone.

We made our purchase over the internet.

I wanted to go out and get some deals, but did not want to get up at 3am. I talked to some people who went BF shopping last year and they said they went to the stores at 12am midnight. The main deal I wanted to get in on was a sporting goods store was giving out $10 to $500 gift certificates to the first 85 people in the door @ 5am. With my luck I would be #86, and soemone would have backed into my truck and dented it.

Pepboys had their $6, Castrol conventional oil and Purolator classic filter, special until 11am. That is a good deal and I would have liked to get some, but not at 5am in the morning, considering I have a stash of synthetic oil that I purchased for $1 a quart with rebate. I would have spent about $7 in gas to get that deal, which would equal the cost of a Pure-one filter. I wouldn't have saved very much.

We have a local electronics store called "Fry's Electronics." They have incredible deals on Black Friday, but the event resembles more the atmosphere of people meeting the Pope than Christmas shopping: There are fists fights, name calling, and stabbings.

Some stores have good deals all weekend, and those are the ones I will shop.

Today was the first..............and last time I ever shop on black Friday. Went to Kohls to get some pants on sale. The wait in line to check out was about 45 minutes.

I'd rather get kicked in the head by a mule. At least I'd be outside getting fresh air...

How much do you make in 45 minutes at your job? I use to work at a job that had unlimited overtime, and I had the keys and could come in and leave anytime I wanted. I would have worked on a black Friday and taken the extra money and bought something off the internet.

The event should be called the Black Plague (bubonic plague).

Lots of unhappy folks when each store only gets 20 of the $199 laptops and they waste their entire day in line for an iten that is long gone by the time they enter the store.

I walked into Old Navy to look at the $15 blue jeans (at 10:30 AM) yesterday and saw the line for the check out and said my time is worth more than that.

Now last year, we were in Cape Girardeau, MO and went to the local Sam's Club about an hour before opening for the Wii bundle and a couple of big screen TV's. We walked out with a 42" Hitachi, a 32" Samsung TV, both 1080p, and the Wii bundle for under $1400 tax included and 18 months same as cash.

The deals last year seemed better.

oilBabe went out with our 16 year old and she got some things at Old Navy at midnight, but it really wasn't worth it to her. It was to the 16 year old since her minimum wage job money doesn't go as far at full price. It was more of a mother/daughter bonding event.

I eventually made it to Walgreens and bought one of the cheap 18v drill sets for $19.99. There really wasn't much in the advertisements that I wanted this year.

Perhaps if I'd located a name brand 50" flat screen for $500 I'd gone out and shopped at 3AM, but that was about it.
