Got what I paid for?

Last year I used https://www.freefilefillableforms.com/FFA/FreeFileForms.htm When I went to log on the other day to do 09, it wouldn't take the name and password I had carefully written on last years return. It wouldn't take my email to recover my user name. Don't know what I did to get banned. Nobody to insult, no place to use foul language? I think they just dumped my info. If I have to start all over again, I would like it to be with somebody that will have my records next year.

The IRS listed at least a half dozen places. My question is was anybody able to go back to the one this year that they used last year? If so, which one?

I saved a pdf copy of last years return, because Taxact charge you (as part of the deluxe edition) to import from last year's info.

Anyhow, I always double check my numbers on paper to see if there is any mistake, and sure enough, Taxact missed the excessive SDI that California should refund me because of my job change.

I'm sure there are better ones out there, but if you are using free e-file for federal and have your own way to e-file state (or don't need to), and you always double check your number, they are not too bad.

I haven't used a ton of these online, so I might have to search or defer to Panda and others.

My 3 month old laptop I use for work($1000) was ruined by a roof leak and repairs were about $750. I chose buying another vs spending that kinds of money.

I wrote off the purchase price of the damaged laptop + purchase of new against my self employed contracting business. Can I additionally do anything about loss?
