Linux...anyone?

Poor Bill just can't win, he tries to use a little truth in advertising by showinh how his product really works and people pick on him.

That is as good as Honda's float in the parade the other day(Rose Boal maybe it was a 207' locomotive) needing a Chevy engine. They didn't say Chevy just that it was a "454 truck engine"

. Wonder how many junkyards feilded calls for a 454 honda engine on monday morning
lol.gif
.

Honda just needed an engine that had a larger displacement then they currently produce. Besides, if that float needed to go further than a few miles, it would probably break down from catastrophic engine failure!
As far as Gates goes....kind of funny to see the nations wealthiest man in a bit of a tough spot. I don't wish him ill, just thought the incident was funny.

I've been working with Macs in my job since 1992, but the high price kept me from buying one for home use. But now that they aren't much more, I'm going to be getting an eMac for home use pretty soon. Macs are definitely more reliable, and are more secure from attacks. Plus then I can finally use Photoshop at home, not just at work.

This has never been the case with macs I have worked with. Inits, conflicts, el bomb, data bottlenecks, screenfreezes... all common with many macs.
You can't beat macs for certain tasks, but to say they don't crash.... well...

I must admit that I will only personally own a Mac. The reliability is soooo much better than with Windows and the cost of ownership so much lower. As far as crashes go, lets just say that OS X has some pretty strong underpinnings and is pretty rock solid stable. Restarts are voluntary and usually only done with system updates.

My first post and two pennies.

At work I've got a G5 Mac running OS X and I honestly cannot remember it crashing one single time since I got it in the summer. And I work with some pretty large images too (200mb or more sometimes)

The G4 I had before it used to crash occasionally though, but no more than once per month.

Try using Pro Tools with on the fly multitrack processing...

I will be soon using a G5 running Finalcut Pro with a Kona2 HD video converter card... will see how the stability fares.

That is pretty funny! At least Steve Jobs can ususally get Apple software to operate. I remember very well the nightmare you can run into if you have any serious problems with any version of Microsoft Windows. I will not go back to Microsoft Windows unless Apple goes out of business.

Just about any serious software problem with an Apple Computer can be solved with one program-DiskWarrior. It has never failed me-not once.

Just as a side note, I noticed Macintosh Computers being used at a NAPA Auto Parts Store. I was stunned! Most people just automatically use a Windows computer and believe all the nonsense they hear about Macs.

Just got the whole sales side of the company I work for to switch to Macs. Now its my head LOL. So far so good. Aftewr the initial bitching and moaning most of the guys are starting to see the light. Steve Jobs would be so proud!

Its a Ford vs. Chevy thing. I could come up with 10 people that say Mac's suck and are unstable etc. and just as easily find 10 more that say the same about Windows based computers. Personaly I don't think there is a difference between the two, and I've owend both. My windows based PC (which I built) NEVER gives me any issues, just like my old Mac.

Apple has their own show next week.

I think the question is, can't Bill afford the best hardware and at least be sure that it wont crash during his demo?

Huh? CES2005 is OVER. There is no CES next week. Everybody and their uncle (in the consumer electronics trade) go to CES, then go home. It just struck me as odd that Apple don't go to CES, especially with the ipod success. I can't name one other consumer electronics company of any significance that isn't at CES. (although Sony had a relatively small exhibit this year).
