First that big ol' dog chews on me and now that oil nut Pablo has me in a funnel. What's he going to do, pour me in an engine?

Pablo, you're a good neighbor and a good dog person.

Cute dog. Glad she's okay. It sounds like an accident that the other dog's owner will prevent in the future and I wouldn't push the issue.

Yep, I'd say that's the way to do it. Most dogs are either friendly or afraid of me, but while I was on a 3 AM run I had a decent sized rottweiler come out of a yard running toward me while barking. Usually I just stop and try to be friendly with dogs, at which point they always fear me unless they're really friendly, but this one actually seemed aggressive and I decided to have some fun. I ran at it at about 3/4 speed, and chased it around a car before it ran back into the yard. I continued on my run and it came out and ran at me again, so this time I ran at it full speed and just clipped it when I kicked at it. He yelped and took off down the street. I took the same route back to see if he was still around but I never saw him again. Maybe I'm strange, but I actually enjoy "urban nature" encounters like that!

Pepper spray probably would be a good thing for the wife to carry around. Me, I'd rather used my legs!

We have a Borzoi, which is a Russian Wolfhound. Looks like a big hairy, greyhound and weighs a bit over 100 lbs now. My oldest daughter was walking it a couple of year ago, it saw another dog next to a house and lunged towards it to check it out. My daughter said the other dog got scared, ran, and in the process of running to it's front porch it scraped itself on a railing or something. She got our dog back on it's leash, talked to the owners, and gave them our address. The owners called and said that they were going to call the police as they said that our dog attacked theirs and bit it, and demanded that we pay the vet bill. I went over to look at their dog, said that they could certainly call the police but it was obvious that it wasn't a bite, especially considering how large our dog's mouth is, our dog's tempermant, and my daughter's observations. I did say though that it would be fair for us to pay the vet bill ($70 or so) as my daughter wasn't able to keep our dog under control. They calmed down a bit, and accepted the offer.

On a walk awhile back when our son wasn't as big our dog lunged after a cat, pulled our son down and dragged him 10 to 15 ft across a muddy lawn. Our son held him though :^)

As a pup our dog could chew thru a nylon leash or 1/4in rope in less than 1/2 minute when it wanted to, so I made the leashes out of plastic covered steel cable and made T handles out of sections of broomstick with a an eye bolt to make it easier to hold. Works well, as the leash has a brass snap at each end and can be attached to or looped around objects.

Pepper spray can work well, but with with strong, aggressive dogs like pitbulls, Rots, etc., you'll have to accept possibly having to beat them senseless with a bat, heavy walking stick, etc., or shoot them.

Case down here a week or so ago of a pitbull (banned now, but they still show up routinely in the news) attacking it's owner's sister, and attempting a tracheotomy.

Builders on a negbouring site were using a ramset (cartridge powered) nailgun, and nailed the dog a dozen times in the head before it would release.

Dog's owner (fluffy jacket and Paris sunglasses) went off to the media about the cruel way in which her dog was treated.

I guess you're handling this well Pablo. The only thing, it would have been more appropriate for the 90-year-old lady to have gotten a smaller dog. That beast probably could pull her down and drag her along on it's leash. Maybe it's not too late for her to trade it in on a smaller model?
