Hey folks. First post here so please bear with me.
Due to lack of spare time I took my 2005 Pilot EX AWD to a local dealer for a rear diff fluid change. When I got the vehicle back they had charged me $88.32 for 3qts of "BG Manual transmission fluid" or $29.44/Qt. Has anyone heard of BG transmission oil? I thought you were only supposed to use Honda VTM-4 fluid. Any ideas or suggestions what I should do? Should I take it back and demand Honda VTM-4?
They used the 75W80 Synchro shift II fluid. I just called them and they said it is better than the Honda stuff and they use it all the time for them. The vehicle has always been changed with the Honda fluid, now at 60k miles

Thanks!!

I wonder why they used a manual transmission oil that is designed for good synchronizer action in your differential[torque drive]?
It does not seem to be the appropriate fluid.
The online price for the genuine VTM-4 fluid is about $21.

I don't see any immediate problems, but I'd go back and query them about their choice of fluid. And get the right stuff in there.
I would not back down about this.

The BG synchroshift has a good reputation concerning shifting in transaxles, but your needs are different, and require a different fluid.

Run it 10-15k miles and do a UOA. Compare it the the Honda VTM4 UOA in the UOA section here and see how it goes.

I doubt that VTM4 is anything special. I also don't see the needs of the Honda diffs, xfer cases, ps systems, and AT as any different.

I also think that they grossly overcharged you for the BG stuff.
Its $45 for 3 quarts delivered to your doorstep. Maybe you can buy the stuff on ebay for $45 and bring it to the dealer for a refund on the $88.32??

I would contact BG and ask them if this product is recommended for the application. If so I would not worry about it. BG has some excellent products I just think they are over priced.

Where can you buy the Synchro Shift II for $45.00?
I am a little paranoid since everyone is saying only to use the Honda stuff, I do not want to fry the VTM-4.
