looking for best oil weight basically? idk the truth behind it but i heard its important on fords to use the right weight.

I dont know about best synthetic but itd get any of these brands in the right weight for your car. Pennzoil, Valovline, Quaker State, Mobil 1

You don't need a synthetic in that engine... They go on forever just fine with dino but if you want one I would sugguest Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra.

Motorcraft (blend) 5w30 or 5w20....and a Motorcraft filter. Its a good year round oil.

Sold at WM...$12 for a 5 quart jug...and filter about $3.60.

OCI's 5000K

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 / OCI's: 1 year or 10K +/-
Mobil 1 102 Filter

I had a 1999 wagon with the Vulcan. Pennzoil 5w30 conventional did the best as far as engine smoothness, MPG and used oil analysis. I used/tried Mobil 1, Chevron, QS and Mobil drive clean in that engine.

Its got 160k on it now and needs a new transmission. Also needed 2 sets of head gaskets (61k and 108k).

Dino with 5k OCI or synthetic with 8-10k OCI, any name brand that you can buy on sale (with or without rebate).

Bill, my '94 LS400 with almost 260k miles still has OEM transmission and head/valve cover gaskets. It's not very good to replace head gaskets twice in 110k miles. The only thing I did to the transmission were change the fluid at 100k and then at 200k.

Is it the OHV Vulcan or the Duratech engine?
Either way I think you would do well with the 5w20 or 5w30 Motorcraft Synthetic blend. It is available at Wal-mart for about $12 per 5 quart jug or a few bucks more if you shop Autozone or Oreilly's Etc. Also look for the Ford Motorcraft oil filter that fits your application for less than $4 at Walmart. Both good performers. You may find that your car originally called for 5w30 but then ford back spec'd most of their engines to 5w20 around 2001 or so.

5 million miles? That's impressive.
