Klotz all the way. I use it in all my 2 strokes - dirt, street, OPE. Smells like... victory.
Have you had carbon issues in ope from the castor?
I only use the Klotz full synthetic stuff, still smells great. In my experience castor is just too messy - exhaust drool, piston and power valve carbon, etc.
^ This should read 1%, not 10%. Anybody who runs castor oil at higher ratios than 1% in a motorcycle or machine running below 10K-12K rpm would eventually have issues with spark plug fouling as short term consequences and jammed crank bearings as long term consequences.
The issue with castor oil ran below those rpm is that cannot fully burn. Castor oil flash point is about 500-550*F. That is also valid for any 2-stroke oils that contain castor oil.
Castrol name comes from castor oil. They used to mix castor in their oils about 100 years ago, but stopped using it long time ago.

Like everything else in California's props that is a required Mfgr. statement.
Who's huffing exhaust fumes or 2 stroke oil, San Fran folks ? Same warning for motor oils, gasoline, etc.
One thing I read was that in California if you want a gasoline string trimmer you have to step way up in cc. For example the Stihl fs251r. Beast size, weight, and price. No typical homeowner or commercial size gasoline trimmer allowed to be sold.
Dang, there goes my plans for a tall glass of Klotz for breakfast, and then spending the day huffing 2-stroke exhaust straight from the tailpipe...
Have you ever spent time with powersports fans? I've seen dirt bikers standing around literally smelling the exhaust of different oils to compare...
I seriously think exhaust smell is no more dangerous than riding a dirt bike wide open so go for the gusto
I haven't noticed any real difference of smell using 2 stroke oil on my trimmer. I have used 100LL on occasion.
I've got 10 different 2 cycle oils in my garage and there are probably 3 that smell pretty much alike. The rest have a smell that is unlike the others. I like Motorex Cross Power 2t, Maxima K2, and Motul 710 a lot. Just an occasional whiff, not catch it in a bag and huff it.
Here's another one that comes back in the game - Castrol Power1 R40. Supposed to smell fantastic, thanks to the castor base.
Castrol USA just announced that is bringing back its R40 castor based racing oil about April-May this year.
The oil is SAE40 and is suitable for 4-stroke racing cars, motorcycles, and 2-stroke engines too.

Back when I was still racing, I used Cool Power. Mixed with C-12, one of the greatest smells ever!
It was a oil for karts and I never had a problem with it. I still have a gallon of it left that I keep for nostalgic reasons.
