Which Subaru? Turbo, or non-turbo?

Any of the name brands are good...To the OP...if you like Castrol and you run it you'll be good to go!...Myself I like Valvoline as far as conventionals go...but that yellow bottle has me thinking...a lot of good used oil analysis with Pennzoil conventional lately!...

With the easy highway driving that the car will be traveling each day,(highway driving is easier on the engine and the oil than stop & go driving), there is every reason to beleive that 5000 mile OCI should be the norm for this new Sub. New LEV or ULEV etc. engines and modern oils, maybe even more that 5000 miles.

And another thing. Normally asperated engines(engines without super/turbo chargers), are eaiser on the oil as compared to super/turbos.

Id stick with Castrol GTX, or if I was to switch it would be Pennzoil or Valvoline. Ive had good luck with Pennzoil in the past when Pennzoil wasnt cool. Id shy away from Motorcraft, its a good oil now, but its marketed by Ford, and if they get a better deal on a supplier or can cut costs, they are going to unannounced. Anytime a car maker markets a product, its more of a gimmic, and you are paying for the makers endorsement, Harley oil is a good example.

Thanks for all the replies , while it is a haul to where she works the trip has 38 red lights on RT30 ,each way !
The car is a PZEV car , Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle.

Some lights are close together ,some are 4-5 miles apart?.
I plan on doing OCI'S at 3k ,as my wife will be using the factory remoter start quite a bit , deluting the oil ?

hop on the highway once a week with the cruise set at 65 and go for a 15-20 mile round trip. Should burn off moisture and neuatralize acids, hopefully.
start with 3K oci's and have a used oil analysis done and see if you can start pushing it out further, then once you find a safe interval do a used oil analysis from time to time to check on things.

The top speed on the section of road where she drive's I
believe is 50 , maybe 55 mph but she does go about 40 miles each way . I'll probably just stick with 3k on the OCI's.
figuring that in the winter time the car will run 30-40
minutes a day on the remote start , Craig.

That Terry Dyson post above (see link) is very interesting. I've heard nothing but good about Schaeffers, but having Dyson weigh in on it - it gives me.... pause.

This part?
"Schaeffer- amazing product, better than their own bench testing shows and hats off to that company for producing excellent product!"
