Agree. We’ve had front and rear BlackVue’s mounted in Boston for 7 years so far. It’s next to the rear view so not obvious. There are integrated rear view mirror / dash cams available.
Also agree rear cam is advisable. Our car got hit from behind and pushed into the car in front. Five minutes after sending insurance company video we were cleared. The car in front’s driver was an ahole and blamed my daughter for hitting him. Then he contacted me for the video - yeah, right, buddy.
The guy who hit us was texting and never touched the brakes. He got out of the car hunched over and holding his back: then looked around, realized he was the one who caused it, then straightened up. It was a rental car, with insurance from the renter, who loaned it to someone else. Huge insurance hullabaloo but we got a timely settlement. He hit our car so hard it bent the unibody frame and totaled the car. My daughter saw him coming, had her foot on the brake and it still punched her into the car ahead.
I hope your daughter was ok! That was a pretty high speed rear ender. The rear suspension / frame damage is to be expected at for that speed and the car is likely designed to do so to protect the occupants.
Pretty scummy of these people to behave this way, from both vehicles!
