Painting windshield wiper arms

I replaced the windshield cowl yesterday and I had my wiper arms off, and I would like to paint my wiper arms, or have a friend of mine do it, have COPD and asthma.. I don't know what the best paint would be and if I should clear coat or not? I've seen on Google, everything from engine paint because of the high heat of the Sun and windshield, to trim and bumper paint. Thank you for your help..

No it doesn't call for it.

I used a near empty spray can of flat black Krylon on a pair after wheeling off some rust and priming with old fashioned Rustoleum red.

I never gave the appropriateness of the paint a thought. I used the dregs I had on hand......one of those times when getting it done

carried the day.

I always wanted a 200 series with the smaller bumpers. All 3 of mine had the big ones

That's a new one, but it makes sense for high heat..

I use the Hi-temp BBG paint on a lot of things that don't need the heat resistance simply because it just seems to stick better than the glossy paint and it looks better.

How long has this held up?

My question is how long does trim black hold up, to the high heat of the Sun? Before it starts fading?

Typically, it will look good for 3 or 4 years. The key is to prepare the wiper/trim by removing all rust and roughing up the surface if it has old paint. Sandpaper works, but it is much easier to use a Dremel tool with a fine wire brush wheel on irregular surfaces like wiper arms. A quick wipedown with isopropyl alcohol or Dupont Prep-Sol will remove any oils before spraying.
