Why do legacy manufacturers not implement handy/fun features?

Why? Because driving isn’t supposed to be the same as PS5. May be hard to believe but there is a group in the ether who say if they have to commute they want it to be old school driving.

I was so upset when Microsoft shelved windows XP. Windows XP let me customize the startup noise. I changed it from the usual startup chime to Darth Vader saying “I’ve been expecting you” every time I turned on the computer. 😆 Later versions of windows removed that functionality.

Who is a "legacy manufacturer?"

Manufacturer's implement what they perceive customers demand. There are more tech gimmicks and toys on vehicles now than ever before. Pretty soon you won't be able to drive your car because it needs a firmware update.

If anything, the trend I see besides the obvious, things going cloud and subscription based, is the actual design. ALL control going to the mfg.

An early sign was when VW owners said they can’t even work on their own car due to VW locking it out.

Some analogies. By 2016 fortune cos were able to fire their highly paid telecom staffs who had very specific proprietary skills. Imagine 2 mil in payroll savings just like that! How about 2025 😂 no savings

I still use my Dell Dimension 8200 which has XP Pro. I like my computers like my cars. 25 years of use desirable. It’s not online, however.

All that tech gets old and expensive to replace or update. Just go to Amazon and bolt on a few goodies for cheap and if they fail, wash and repeat.

Your point about the dashcam is well received. My SRT has a cam in the mirror for the adaptive cruise and automatic braking and it can apparently be accessed remotely in an accident but I can't use it as a dashcam even though it sounds like the vehicle does. BMW has basically the same setup, but you can use it as a dashcam.
The new 2024+ Mustangs, at least the higher trim levels, have a USB port on the front of the interior rear view mirror to power a dash cam.
