I have an 2009 Ford Escape with a 2.5 4 engine. I get over 28 mph, has plenty of power and uses no oil. The only thing I don't like is that it is very noisy. It calls for a 5w20. With that oil it's way to loud for me. I put syn 5w30 in it. Much better, but yes I want more. Any suggestion on oils that would make the engine even quieter? I've thought about a HM 5w30 but looking at the Cst @ 100c they don't seem any "thicker" than reg 5w30. Also thought about syn. 0w40. Think this would be ok?

2009 is it still under a warranty? If so I wouldn't be messing with anything other than the grade of oil Ford recommends, and bring it in to be checked out. JMO

You won't get it quiet due to the noise of the injectors. Which is most likely what your hearing.

no..has over 50K miles...is out of warranty. The engine is probably ok...it's just noisy. After having a Chevy Traverse with a very quite 3.6 v-6. Even Consumer Rep. mags says the engine is noisy (in this and other Fords). The engine isn't blowing up or nothing like that

Try Mobil 1 0W-30. I've been highly impressed with their 0W-20 in my two vehicles. I suspect the 30 would be even quieter. Curious: what is the synthetic 5w30 you have in it now?

Syntec 0w30 has been noticeably quiet in every application I've tried it in.
Synpower 5w30 seems very smooth in our Forester.
Try Synpower 5w30, which is fairly thin, and see what you think.
If that doesn't help, try GC (Syntec 0W-30).
OTOH, the Escape is not a high-end vehicle, especially the 4 cylinder, so it may be down to a lack of sound insulating material as well as engine mounts that weren't too carefully developed from the factory.

yes the 2.5 is old tech. My 4.6 v8 Ford truck is loud too for a v8. Some engine are just not as refined as others.

You should have a powertrain warranty until 60K miles...

IMO if you want quiet, you want a dino that's loaded with moly, I'd suggest Pennzoil Conventional 5w20 or 5w30.
