Best oil for noisy engine

Personally I'm a Mobil guy here, and I'd suggest their AFE 0w20, but you really can't go wrong with any of the major brands.

Mobil 1 0w20/30.

0w20 is the best I've used in the Honda in terms of "noise". Extremely quiet on cold starts. Was never loud to begin with, but eliminated a very small noise on cold starts.

Not sure about it. In my corolla with its noisy 1ZZ-FE engine I did a few oil changes with Pennzoil Conventional and noticed no difference in sound. I also tried boosting ZDDP with oil additives and no difference. I never tried different viscosities outside 5W30 or 10W30 though.

I have the 4 cylinder engine in my 2003 Ranger pickup truck. After trying nearly every name brand oil, I have concluded that it runs quietest on Havoline Deposit Shield conventional oil. I am using the 5W-20 weight per Ford's OEM specs.

good luck if a dealer checks it out they will say it supposed to sound like that unless it is not under warranty than it would be an expensive problem that needs to be fixed asap!
warranty work does not pay enough and the times the factory gives them to do the job is unreasonable

guys I'm not talking about a rod knocking. Just a noisy engine. Some engines are that way. My old Suzuki sidekicks for example. Was just looking for an engine old to hush it a little. Maybe a high mileage oil?

Most probable your good gas mileage is due to using the 5W-20 oil. I believe yoo can use a 5w30 weight oil with giving up a slight amount of MPG to held dampen your engine noise but the higher you go the more your MPG will suffer. If I were you I'd not go any higher than a 30W.

Your 2009 Ford Escape gets fantastic mileage per gallon of gas. With the high price out here in Los Angeles I'd gladly give up the "quiet" for a noisier engine and get better mileage! The main thing is nototo starve the engine of oil. The highest price I've seen for gas is Shell/$4.93/regular!!!

With that being said it much appears the new industry standard is the 5W-20 weight oils now compared to the 30W's.

I use Mobil 1 0w20 in both Duratechs(the same designed engine as yours)and my engines are very quite.

The 2.5 is actually the smoothest, quietest Duratec 4-cylinder yet. It has balance shafts, plus an insulating 'jacket' over the fuel rail to dampen injector sound. Even still, the injectors are very loud on this and every Duratec 4-cylinder. The Zetec motor had the same issue. You can only refine and smooth out a 4-cylinder engine so much. The Duratec motors also have a direct acting cam-to-bucket valvetrain, so this will also create some noise.

My 2010 Fusion has the same 2.5 and it has 20k on it and I have run Motorcraft 5w20 Full Syn, Mobil 1 0w20 and currently Quaker State UD 0w20, engine is very quiet.
