best oil for LS1 2001 CAMARO besides GC 0w30

Look on your engine oil fill cap and it should give you the recommended oil. I do believe it's 5w30. Try Mobil1 or Pennzoil Platinum in 5w30 and see if it quiets down that valvetrain. The 0wXX myth will ruin your engine and void any warranty you may have. The guys that designed your engine believe you need a 5w30 oil. Why would you think otherwise?

That has got to be the most bizarre post I have ever read. I hope you are kidding.

He's not joking. I happened to stumble upon several posts by him saying the same thing. It's a bad misunderstanding and generalization he's making. No offense to him by me bringing it up (we all misunderstand many things) but we are here to find the truth and that isn't truth.

Are you (we) sure he is not kidding (despite the posts), and just razzing the majority (devil's advocate, perhaps?) GC

I hope I have just as much luck when I switch it over to PP 5w30 in a few months.

Patman; is this just to "experiment", or is GC becoming increasingly more difficult to find in your area (as everywhere, it seems

)? Just wondering, as you are (rightfully so) one of the more (most?) loyal GC fans.

I ran the Amsoil in my 2002 Trans Am WS6 for 4 yrs and never had any real engine issues. Actually I think my WS6 LS1 was the only one every made that in 4 yrs never went back to the dealer for anything. No warranty claims.

I had no warranty claims at all on the 1998 LS1 Formula I bought brand new in 98 (and had for almost three years) I drove that car pretty hard too (over 250 quarter mile runs)

And my 98 Corvette has been pretty much just as reliable, with only two repairs needed in 2 1/2 years. One was the climate control display went too dim to read, the other was the replacement of the ECM due to the OEM battery leaking acid on it-a known problem that's not the fault of the car but the battery manufacturer.

Me three. Seven years, almost 100K uber hard miles (pretty sure they were more severe than Patman's miles) , NO major, non wear & tear problems.
Hmmm, aren't these "supposed" to be some of the most "unreliable" cars ever made.

I just wanted to try something different, I guess I was getting kinda bored of using the same oil and seeing the same results all the time, and am also interested in seeing if a thinner oil will give me a little bit more low end torque.

I've still got enough green GC in my basement to supply my car for a couple more years, and gold GC is everywhere up here, it's not hard to find at all since it's sold in both Canadian Tire and Walmart and rarely do I ever see the shelves empty. So if it turns out I'm not happy with PP, I can always switch back.

Yes, I understand that perfectly! In fact, I often times wonder just how much my brother's use of Amsoil TSO contributed to him achieve those unbelievably sick times at the track!!

I remember telling your brother back when he ran 12.48, that he would probably run 12.2s in the colder months with more break in miles. I still think his car could run as quick as 12.15 with no other changes, but I believe he's going to do some minor mods to it now isn't he? I can't wait to get my hands on a C6!

Yes, he's going to do some "free" mods, and possibly some tuning. I can see how some just don't believe how this car can be this quick/fast!! I mean he is almost in big buck "supercar" territory with those numbers in a $40K automatic pure bone stock ride!!!
