Hi Guys -

I know this has been asked in a million different ways, let me try to put my spin on the question. I change about every 5K and I do have bypass filtration.

My truck hat 104,000 on it. I used Rotella Syn 5-40 for about 40K, then switched to Mobil Delvac 1. I'm thinking the Mobil is overkill for my intervals.

I'm tempted to try dino Delo because of it's great rep. Otherwise I'm probably back to Rotella Syn.

My only other requirement is that the oil be generally avaiable, which cuts out Delvac1 and Schaeffers in my area.

What do you guys think I should run?

The Delvac 1 is a little too rich for my blood.

Delo is great and so is Mobil Delvac 15w40. Two excellent oils for the $$.

If you run a bypass filter the oil doesn't need to be changed so often an if it does the bypass filter is wasting your money. The Rotella 5w/40 which should be their syn oil doesn't need changing at 5,000 miles with or without a bypass filter. I would guess the Delo or Delvac 1300 would last longer than 5,000 without a bypass filter . I would run the Rotella syn at least 10,000 mile with the bypass filter. Then run a used oil anaylsis to see how the oil is holding up.

I have been running Delo in my 7.3 with no bypass for a while. I could comfortably run 7500 OCI confirmed by UOA's. I change it at 4K because the truck is kind of a toy to pull my toys.

You could run the dino oils 7500-10,000 OCI depending on your driving conditions and run the syn oils 10-15K OCI. I would recommend doing several UOA's to see how the oil is holding up with the bypass filter and longer OCI.

I currently run Schaeffer's 15w40. Before Schaeffer's I was running Delo 400 15w40 and the used oil analysis results were better than Rotella & Amsoils 15w40. It's good oil and the Molybdenum additive is in it. I was running 8-10K between oil changes with the oilguard bypass filter on my 2003 7.3L PSD.
