Best Hotdogs

Wouldn’t this be a topic for the food /beverages forum?

That being said, there’s a well known hot dog place around here that has multiple suppliers depending on the kind of sausage. One supplier was the now defunct company Saag’s. My fav way back when was the “country” which was 100% meat from veal. But now I’ll get the bockwurst although I’m not sure who makes it.

There was a really good 100% beef hot dog at a meat counter attached to a fancy-ish restaurant. It was from Niman Ranch (a high end meat company that the founder has disavowed) and they gave house made condiments. I don’t think most here would have recognized what they called ketchup.

Yumm! Hot dogs from the Roanoke Weiner Stand! I still miss that place! I had old guys tell me that when they came from from WW-II and got off at the Roanoke train depot, that before going home or to see their girl friends, that the Weiner Stand was first place they went in order to get a hot dog there.

Which one do you like best? We usually go to the one downtown. I’m assuming that’s the one those old guys went too haha. I like the one near Salem though because they have more than just hotdogs.

Other than Costco while there, I only like the ones with the natural casing. They are so unpopular one would have better luck finding a E36 M3 lightweight for $150k.

But we used to buy Dietz and Watson at BJs. Thumann’s at Costco. When I was in college Hembold’s. I had always heard Sabrett was always natural casing at stands, and skinless for retail.

I would fall out of my chair if someone says Oscar Mayer.

I went to the one downtown. I had several family members that worked at Sam's clothing store down on the market and I would spent Saturdays prowling around some of the OLD stores in that area. Is Sam's still there? The brothers that ran it were always exceptionly nice and treated all of their employees very well.

I don't think that I ever tried the weiner stand out in Salem.

Back in the day in Manhattan, Gray’s Papaya was it. 50 cents per hot dog. 2 am and long line, W 8th St and Ave Americas. I’m talking early 90’s in case anybody is thinking something else!
