I'm wanting to use a Fram Ultra on my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L V6 (have been using a Wix lately). However, my research has found both the XG 3593a and the XG 9688.

Does anyone know for sure which of these Frams is the best fit?

Thanks in advance!
Ryan

Either will fit and work. However imo, best to use the filter Fram specs. For the 2.7 that is the 9688. That way you keep the Fram filter warranty.

Why not use a Hyundai filter from the dealer they are usually priced ok and they are great well made filters.. Call around somedealers are cheaper than others. On my 2011 Santa fe the dealer is cheaper then the wix

But the Hyundai filter isn't rated for 15,000 miles like the Ultra, is it?

UP to 15,000 miles Look and read carefully.

If warranty purposes are what you're worried about, I doubt he'll have that issue with a 2007. He'd have no issues whatsoever with running a 15k oil and filter/ filter change interval.

Yep use the 9688, I think Fram actually did a redesign on that series for the Hyundai/KIA engines. Not sure, but that's the filter they recommend and they work flawlessly on my daughter's KIA.

As long as there is no vehicle warranty to consider (and possibly void by an extended OCI), an Ultra can go 15K, but no way would I trust the OEM filter on either of my two Hyundais to go that far--but that is just me.

Do you remember the years Hyundai (or Kia) had their issues with non OEM filters?

Not exactly but I think it's the older ones. And I think those issues may have prompted Fram to tweak the 9688's also. Motorking may have mentioned that at some point but I'm not positive and don't want to put words in his mouth either.

I do know the Fram 9688's work fine though.

Thanks. Just curious.

I have a thing for the older body style Sonatas. They remind me of the VW Passat/ Audi A4 body shape. Its a shame to hate a car because it has to have OEM filters only.

I also prefer the Wix but I would also use an Ultra. Anything else from Fram, I would stay away from.

Oh I see what you mean, yeah I think the big years for filter noise on the Korean rides were the early to mid 2000's years. Since then I believe some after market filters have been found to work just fine. Design tweaks? And the OEM filters are excellent anyway.

The filter specifically called out in the TSB for engine running noise was an ecore BTW.
