I think I've decided to run the K&N HP-6002 filter on my 427BB. They sell for $19 at the local Advance. Any onlince sources offering better prices?

Thanks!

$19, that's pretty spendy for a filter! I don't think they're worth it for $10.

$19 is outrageous for something that isn't appreciably better than a $10 Mobil1, a $5.49 Wix, or a $5 PureOne. Even a $3 ac-delco would get the job done just fine.

I don't spend $19 on my entire oil and filter changes these days. And I use synthetics.

How do you intend to use the motor?

If you're not running an extremely aspirated race engine with 400+hp why even bother with K+N? I'm not one to follow the crowd but I agree with the general consesus on this board that K+N is extremely overpriced for a "just okay" filter.

However, if that 427 needs the 550 psi burst strength of a K+N then get the JEGS catalog, I think the 6002 runs about sixteen bucks. I use to run a HD Moroso on my crate 425, but for a couple of bucks cheaper I could get the K+N with a thicker shell and an extra 125 psi resistance, not to mention a nifty end cap nut.

Most of the answers to your questions can be found in my earlier post. http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=002838 In short, engine bypass is blocked, 15W-50 Mobil One (thicker oil is for extra clearances in the bearings during rebuild) is being used. I need a high strength filter with really good flow. Not excellent flow like you would get out of a race filter. Basically I'm willing to sacrifice a little filtration for more flow. Cost, not an issue on a car that gets less than a 1000 miles a year. I change it once a year right after I stop driving before winter. I could run the shorter HP-3002 (and save a few $ but the longer HP-6002 will fit and not hang below the pan. So far I've found the 3002 for (9.95) and the 6002 (14.95) online. I was hoping to save on a half dozen somewhere. The PureOne and Mobile 1 are great filters (I run them in my everyday cars) they filter better than the flow. But with the bypass blocked, and all the oil going though the filter, I need a good flow.
