June update,
Picked up a Hastings LF 548 yesterday for $7. It was a Purflux
L264A identical to the AC's I bought from my dealer and the Frams
Walmart had for a while. Last year my Chevy dealer stuck me for
$8 bucks on them, and the facial expressions left me seething and
not wanting to do business with them. Maybe for my September oil
change, I will see if the price and service are better under the new
owner.
I removed the STP 9018R I used last time. Much to my surprise, it
had 141 sq. in. filter area to the 121 of the Purflux/AC. As
compared to to the PF 1177 for my truck, the STP was the best of 6
after market filters, but only had 72% as much filter area as the AC.
The STP had 64 straight pleats. The Purflux has 50 compressed
into a zig-zag pattern.
Purflux, made in France, bought as AC, Hastings, and Fram
STP, made in Korea
Fram, currently on shelf at Wal-Mart, made in Korea, not identical
to STP.
