Been using fl-910-s filters for a while but wondering if I should change it up for a filter with less failures. I change at 5k but overkill is fine with me. Thanks.

This reminds me, I sold my Ford Ecosport and I have a big stash of used FL-910S (for warranty purposes) no longer reserved for warranty purposes. About 4 and 1/2 years worth.
Be cool to look for excessive glue and report.

I guess I have to buy a nice filter cutter. The Dremel wheel aint cuttin' it. Sparks and flames and slow.

Sadly my back deck just collapsed and I am in the middle of a one man (and wife) construction project.

Someday.

I'm pretty agnostic with my filter selection these days. I swapped over to the longer FL400S style filter (it is a bit easier to get on and off on the Ranger with the extra length.) I've cut all of them apart and have yet to see a failure.

So far I've used.

FL910S (x4)
Bosch D3422 Distance Plus (x6)
MC FL400S (x3)

Currently using Pro-Tec PXL51516MP's which are made by Wix and look to be a version of their upper end filters (xp line?). I haven't cut one of those yet since I just started using them this change.

I too have mostly been running PG, now working through a stash of PG made EcoGards. In certain lines of PG the upsize filter is more FL-400s sized instead of the 5plus inch 3600 type. I like the smaller upsize as it boosts capacity to exactly 6 quarts.

PG195XL and S195XL are sized this way.

Motorcraft is another commonly counterfeited product line, there are some ifs about the failures.
The Boss is not subject to glue or tearing issues. I have no trouble with the One or Red either, but I am influenced by the pictures too, valid or not.
You can also use the Toyota Denso filters, 90915-YZZD1 for 910s size, or 90915-YZZD3 for 3600 size. Same 3/4-16 thread size. They have a lot of media and will do a good job.

I recently did an oil change on my mom's explorer and went with the Carquest Premium 85348 based off of some posts from here.

If I didn't get the Carquest, I was going to get a Purolator Boss. But since the Carquest has better filtration, good build quality, and is cheaper it made since to get the Carquest over the Boss.

I was too, but check out some of the FL-910s cut and posts here recently. Not good.
Well i'm no expert. But here are two I cut apart. December 24 and this month. Five thousand miles each. 24 ford maverick turbo .prods 5/30 . I've asked the experts if this is a new manufacturer. The ones I saw posted months ago.Had raised dimples on the end cap. These are On both sides smooth. They look perfect.

What's the date code on the filters? These could be older stock before they started having quality issues.

The Motorcraft oil filter problems (in particular, sloppy/excessive glue and glue coming loose) is well documented at this point. I've posted several here in this forum, and we can be reasonably certain these are not counterfeits. In my case, they were ordered directly from Walmart and Rock Auto.

Here's the top view of the filters. These came from the Ford dealer. My grandson works for As a heavy line mechanic. So I am Pretty sure they're not counterfeit.

About a year ago I noticed a couple of pieces of black glue in my oil change pan. Several months later with another oil change I saw more, so that's when I switched to a different filter.
Could possibly see that happening after finding a little excessive black glue on my last FL910S on the bottom of the metal end cap and lower region of the cellulose media.

Switched to the Carquest premium on the last Ford Escape change.
