Best AV protection for PC?

I used to recommend AVG but it is now nagware.

ESET. If you purchase the multi PC version (and have parents or kids with PCs) its a good deal for an excellent product. Of course you will pay for the multi PC version yourself but will feel good that your relative's PCs are well protected.

Most of the free ones modify the browser with a proxy to give you ads or similar.

Malwarebytes had a lifetime license a few years back. But no more.

LOL My go to business machine is still a Mint box. I've been fooling around with Win 10 only because its free.

Ha,ha,ha...The machines I use most have Mint. I have a computer that was too slow for Windows 7 so it is my Windows 10 experimental machine. Windows seems to be too much work.

Just bought Optiplex 760 with Windows 7. Right away installed Mint for a dual boot. That is another option. Allows the best of both worlds. Windows 7 was slow and Mint is very fast on the same computer in my experience.

Around Black Friday or Cyber Monday New Egg has ESET for $5. Used it for several years without problems. Also have Kaspersky for free after rebate for 3 computer license. If you come here often someone will post those deals when they are available. So you might want to do one of the free ones now and get the full featured ones when on sale.

I would have wiped Windows right off the map on this machine except I wanted to try a couple old Steam games. But, that's all I've done in it. Microsoft's state of the art operating system is relegated to playing fifteen year old games.

Panda Free is pretty dang good for a freebie. It's right there with the big dogs in real world tests. PCMag rated the 2016 version an editors choice.

I am trying the free version of Panda AV on my Sister's laptop right now for the 1st time. She doesn't have the money to buy an AV program( in a nursing home )so I installed a free one for her.

Doesn't seem to have as much system drag as AVG does and it isn't always nagging you to upgrade like AVG does now. I always used AVG in the past where free AV was needed. As long as Panda free keeps the boogie man out reasonably well I will use it from now on. The new AVG was driving me nuts!
