Which ones do you think are worth the read, and which ones should go in the crusher?

I enjoy Car & Driver's new car reviews and to be frank, I can't think of anything else online outside of Youtube. As for print, Hagerty's has become a great magazine. I picked up a copy at the SEMA convention this year and thoroughly enjoyed it on the flight back from Las Vegas.

Worst? Autoblog. I also think Autoguide and The Truth About Cars have become commercialized windbag sites.

What says you?

My favorite car show is Gearz with Stacey David, I've been watching him since I was a kid and he was on TNN. Doesn't really try to shill any products too hard and does fun projects.

Mainstream automotive media is too industry driven. Those big names are just shills, they cannot give a truly honest review or comparison because too many people's jobs are on the line. They will never come out and say x sucks or it is junk compared to y. They are also targeted at normies, so much of their content is geared toward getting them to spend money to feel safe. The Toronto Star's Wheels section is like this, they are essentially propagandists for NADA.

I think the seven year tire lifespan is an example of this, it gets parroted in automotive media and exaggerated to sell tires. Suddenly an 8 year old tire has no grip and can explode at any moment according to BITOG.

Car and Driver has long been my favorite. I really like Head 2 Head on MotorTrend on Demand but other than that show, I don't care for their articles.

I enjoy Motorweek. Their reviews are very balanced, they test cars that regular people can afford as well as expensive cars. It's a public broadcasting show as far as I know, the same guy has been hosting since the very beginning.

Their YouTube channel is totally free, it's also on Velocity weekly on Sunday. Check out the "retro reviews". They are a real trip.

Best:
Savagegeese
Autogefühl
Engineering Explained
Redline Reviews
The Humble Mechanic

Worst:
Really can't think of any

Wow, I haven't heard that in years! I completely forgot about this show, and now wonder how that's possible. Completely agreed. This was actually good.

Now I get to figure out how/where to binge watch ALL of his shows, past and present. It'll keep me from boredom this winter. Any ideas?

The Garage Journal forums is a good site for people like us (OCD). I mostly peruse the tool section, but there is also a wealth of good experience to help with garage construction and maintenance/management.

Really good topic! I've been reading TTAC for a few years, but really don't like it. The tone is a bit hip and snarky, like they're trying too hard to be cool. There were some really good writers, but I haven't seen most of them in awhile. Some of the commenters are really rude too. I appreciate the alternatives suggested here.

I do check out the Car & Driver site regularly, and GoodCarBadCar for car sales data.

I really like MPVClub.com, which is an excellent resource for an endangered species (i.e. those of us who are are still 1st-gen Mazda MPV enthusiasts), but it's not a very active site any more. It was hopping a dozen or so years ago. Great bunch of people.

Mazdas247 is pretty good. The Kia site is pretty slow.

As far as YouTube car-type sites, I like Engineering Explained, Scotty Kilmer (

), and various others. I am very grateful to various individuals who have been kind enough to post their repairs on vehicles I have worked on.

So having said that, BITOG is my #1 source for things automotive and mechanical. It's a bonus for me that some of my other interests (bikes, home repairs, health information, etc.) are represented here. You (my fellow BITOGers) are an excellent bunch of very resourceful and helpful people. Thank you!

The Mazda247 site used to be decent but a few negative posters seem to put down Mazda at every chance. It might depend on which subforum you are on. This was the cx5 forum.

I left it.
