Best Adhesive for Cement Siding to Cedar?

When I moved the wood PILE I found a hanging edge of Hardiplank that was broked and gone at the bottom. I think I know the guy who broke it. New ZT meet Mr Flying Rock! Anyway I have a plan.

Cut square.
Cut matching piece of side
Screw and glue a backing piece of cedar 3/4"x 1.5"x~9". This piece will be hidden.
Attach matching piece to backing cedar. What glue??
Fill, prime ready for final paint.

It will never be perfect but better than a missing hunk.

The shrink/swell of cedar with weather changes is going to be problematic with any adhesive. A scrap of hardiplank might be better.

That being said, 3m 4200 or West System Gflex could be considered.

Contractors/builders glue. The stuff they use to glue floor boards to the joices. Once it sets you will never get it undone.

I'm partial to this stuff. Used it for a plethora of things inside and outside. It be super strong.

Of course that is the only one the store was out of. They had quite a few variants though. I'll post some pics later

I'm using small stainless screws, so it won't be 100% dependent on the adhesive. I thought about using the siding as the backing but screws don't exactly grip to it well. I think the cedar will do ok. Not wet and not direct sun.

I don't know about cedar but I tried to use gorilla glue construction adhesive on treated pine. The posts and tops were perfectly dry - the posts several years old and the caps I had sawn at several months early. Not one of them held. Not at all. There is zero force on these - they sit on top the posts.

Trying to figure out what to try next. Maybe a screw. :ROFLMAO:

Cedar is oily which is why it weathers so well. I'm thinking a piece of exterior grade of plywood planned down to the exact thickness you need would be better.

I hate cutting this stuff. It's just nasty. Ruins every blade. And NO the piece I had was not even close to the same fake pattern. Will fill artfully and prime tomorrow.
