Doing a early rear brake job on a 2017 Prius with about 105K on it, I suspect the ABS/VSC system has been applying the rear service brakes more in combination with regen braking on the rear axles, I’m shocked the selling dealer didn’t do a pad slap on it.
I’m breaking my no parts store pad rule, yea yea, I can get Akebono or Advics cheaper from RockAuto or use OE Toyota and leave the rotors untouched. I’ve had luck with pad slaps using only OEM “warranty” pads on two cars. Using Duralast Gold, made in China by Baofeng Brake. I didn’t want to pad slap the rotors, I was looking for rotors - AZ/O’Reilly say you can get free “regular” pads or upgrade for $10-20 to their better pads. But rotors there are overpriced. Went on Amazon, found a good price on Bendix PriorityOne rotors - their nicer line. Coated with a similar Geomet-like coating as DFC, Raybestos EHT and other rotors that aren’t Bosch QuietCast/Akebono(Worldpac) or Powerstop. It was cheaper than getting rotors machined, which I don’t do these days. Machine shops don’t maintain their lathes, the last set of rotors I got had too much runout which showed up as a slight shimmy.
I’ll report back in a few months, this car is being used as a cab.
