Not true, calcium is dominant over magnesium. See the used oil analysis for my BMW.

I phrased it poorly, I meant GC uses higher levels of magnesium than most oils and less calcium than most oils. Like Mobi1 1 (except for Mobil 1 0W-40 IIRC), GC still has more calcium than magnesium. I believe magnesium is more potent than the equivalent of calcium judging by the additive packs of some HDEO oils...

I believe so, but I didn't check all the spec's that closely...

Has anyone seen the Castrol 0w40 in the new design bottle? It says made in Germany on the back of the 0w40, and the new bottle 0w30 has the made in Belgium as you all have stated. Seems they switched where the 0w30 and 0w40 are made.

Made in Belgium, Made in Germany, Made in USA, Made in Oz I tend think its not all that relevant unless the oil has the necessary OEM approvals and it is less expensive than the home brew or it is the new Holy Grail we are looking for.

I would buy the oil that is produced in my own country eg Made in Oz to support the local companies as a first preference.

It's not about supporting local companies. GC hasn't been made in USA for a while now. Besides, even if it was, BP isn't a US company.

But every time BP shifts production of GC from one refinery to another, conspiracy theories on BITOG abound.

Yeah, that's what I've been saying, too. The 0w-40 already meets all the same stringent euro mfg specs, so the 0w30 is now redundant.

Perhaps. But if that were true, why would Castrol move production to Belgium and create brand new packaging. If they are going to discontinue it, it sure seems like a lot of work for nothing.

Scott

I dunno.

Doesn't pennzoil have some fancy new packaging and didn't Mobil do something with the jugs not long ago.
Even the oil barons gotta keep up with the jones's

Yep Pete I understand what you mean.

However, just for clarity I want it understood its not about idol worship of certain oils either. Its more about the oil that has the necessary approvals not the flavour of the BITOG or internet era in a specific time warp.

Sure we may have favourite or preferred oils it doesn't mean that mean we need to be a under a hypnotic spell to use these. There are other brands of similar quality that would be a suitable replacement is my point.

If you must stay faithful to whatever then good for you.
