Guys I have a 2005 Tundra 4.7 V8 Toyota . I changed to PP at about 5,200 miles. I now have 12,500 miles. I think I'm going to change it out . It's been two years. I run Toyota oil filters also. I drive this truck every other week on short enough runs. Some times long runs. I'm using PP so I can go longer inbetween changes and for the piece of mind thingy. $$ isn't the big issue Time doing it is. My time is very short and limited. Thanks WarDawg

I would change it out. Short trips and the fact that the truck is still breaking in tells me that this oil has been in there way too long. Then again, without a UOA, it's impossible to tell!

Then again, at this rate of driving, the engine will last longer than many of the other parts of this truck! Every two years will be fine if the operating conditions continue.

You got me beat with 7500 miles in two years. My wifes Continental has 5200 miles since last October 10th. (one year).
It has GC in it now, and we are taking the car up to Western NY in a couple weeks, so on return, it will have around 9000 miles total on that oil. Will change the oil/filter on the return because in early November, that same car (Continental) will drive out to El Paso, Phoenix then Roswell. Will probably put on 6000 miles (4200 out and back plus 1800 just driving around) so I want to start out with fresh oil.

How many total miles on the truck?

If you have a total of 12,500 say goodbye to your 5 year (2 more years) 60,000 mile (48,500 miles more) power train warranty.

It does not take that much time to get the oil changed. Less than 30 mins in a Tundra. I've taken plenty of our work trucks and had their oil changed. And they have to go around PA systems, sirens and such to get to the filter.

Take care, bill

Let's see a UOA of it. The UOA also, if good, could support a defense of your warranty, though the company likely can reject any claim merely based on the interval being in excess of the warranty requirement.

Any court is going to cover the MFG since he went 4 (FOUR) times OVER the recommended OCI. (And on a NEW motor. (He put it in @ 5k)

Lucky for him, the chances of needing to excercise the warranty is slim, but I don't buy new cars to not need a warranty.

Take care, bill

Well, that is called being honest and not having receipts/service records.

I know how I live my life. If someone gives me too much change, they get it back. I've been thanked many a time.

If you want to lie and forge documents..

Nothing I could / would do.

Take care, Bill

I agree with Bill. Stay honest.

I need to write this: Just because a person exceeds a recommended OCI, a manufacturer absolutely cannot deny warranty coverage. The manufacturer would have to PROVE that the components in question were harmed by the lack of fluid change.

Guys I believe the OCI on my Tundra is set at every 7,000 miles. That is with conventional oil. I'm running full synthetic Pennzoil. So that is only going over by 500 miles.

A little history. I ran the factory fill till 1,500 miles. I switched to Pennzoil Full synthetic . I ran that till 5,500 miles. I oil changed again using Pennzoil Full synthetic. Now the mileage reads 12,500 or so . So that's 7,000 and some change . The only issue is the two years . I do thank you for all your reply's. WarDawg

I recently changed oil in a 1997 Chevy Tahoe after 13 months & ~1700 miles.

I've changed lots of oil & this stuff stunk and looked pretty bad given it's mileage.

1 Year MAX (unless zero usage).

The OCI for your 2005 truck *IS* 5k or 6 months whichever comes first.

So you went over 2500 miles and 18 months. Toyota does not and could care less what type/brand of oil you use as long as it meets SL and is 5w-30.

It does not matter now. But I would change the oil more often then 2 years.

As far as warranty how many lubrication issues has anyone had?

Every car and engine has issues. Some more than others. I agree that he most likely will not have any problems. But I don't buy new cars to have to "deal" with warranty issues.

I had head gaskets go out and they reviewed my oil changes. They will look for any reason to not cover a claim.

Why risk it?

Well for me persoanaly I like to stay within warranty requirements, I have the time to do this and actually get entertainment out of the care of a vehice. But from a pragmatic view I see no reason why this extension of the time variable would cause any harm in this instance.

The only reason I went with Pennzoil Full synthetic was I thought you could go longer between oil changes. I didn''t realize it was just a marketing scam. Dino being just as good. I'll go back to havoline dino in 6 months from now and get the synthetic out of it. Funny thing is my wife's Honda with dino oil is rated up to 7000- 8000 miles OCI . Who would have thunked it ?? Crazy world we live in. Thanks for the help guys. Wardawg
