Beater: Should I buy this car?

I would have gotten the solara... Actually I would have borrowed money from Grandma and bought both and flipped one. They're both good deals.

This car had some steep repairs to make. This gamble didn’t turn out as favorably as other beaters I have bought.

1) Yes, a wheel bearing was needed, but the XD uses some model-only wheel bearings. No Toyota Corolla wheel bearings. I spent $400 on two wheel bearings, since either both were bad or I replaced a good wheel bearing accidentally.

2) replaced cracked taillight and cracked bumper. $180

3) fixed broken bolt on the control arm and replaced control arm. $800

4) and now! The radiator is leaking! It must have been this way when I bought it. Radiator is only $100, but still, this job requires removing the bumper.

So all in all, my $2500 has become a $3500-$4000 ride. Kinda disappointed. But when you go so low, there are some risks.

I had a 2001 Honda civic that I bought for $2900. It only had one mechanical issue in the 60k miles I drove. Camshaft position sensor. That’s it.

The xD is not turning out as hot.

Doh! can't win every gamble.

Still ahead of buying new. Ahead of buying something for $10k which these days is "cheap".

The real test will be in 2-3 years. Will the streak of repairs come to an end?

Old radiator is out. Had to remove the bumper to get it. it was quite bad.
