I have a bottle of Auto-RX sitting on my shelf in my room from around 2007, and it eventually leaked all over my shelf, ruining a lot of things on the shelf. It looks like one of the corners of the bottom of the bottle cracked, and it leaked slowly out of the bottle. Just a heads-up for those of you that are sitting on older bottles from that time-frame.

Better use the magic potion instead of storing it for so long.

I have had a windshield washer gallon jug spontaneously spring a leak, leaking the entire gallon out, getting many things wet.

Hah, if you consider it ruining the cardboard on my Johnny Lightning cars, yes! I had to open one of them because it was so stained from the stuff :p On the bright side, I'm sure it will help keep the top of the shelf sludge free

Excellent point regarding ANY old plastic bottles.

Just a few days ago I opened up a bin with a bunch of old darkroom stuff and grabbed a bottle of Kodak Rapid Selenium Toner (probably 20-plus years old by now) in a plastic bottle and it cracked when I picked it up! Fortunately it was a very small crack on the very bottom and I also had an empty quart-sized bottle within reach, so I only lost about an ounce or so, mostly contained in a paper towel.

I've generally found plastic bottles to be longer lasting than metal ones, but this has me scared!

I recall everyone being concerned with the shelf life of the product, which we were told was not a concern. Seems the shelf life of the bottle is the issue now.

Sorry for the late reply -- yes, it did see some sunlight being on display on my desk, but I'm surprised it damaged the part that wasn't as visible to the sun.

I've had some solvents that after pouring them out, looked like they had eaten at the bottom of the bottle... EEK.

I've gotten into the habit of buying only what I will use shortly. I keep 1-2 filters per car max... 2 cases or less per oil type... (I only need 5w20 Now!) and then there's the cleaners and stuff.
