Co worker's 05 Cavalier coupe needs a new 75 series battery to replace her Valuecraf t battery. Best bang for buck.


Everstart MAXX (JC) 75 bucks VS. Super Start Extreme (East Penn/Deka)also 75 bucks


Likes to charge her stuff off it......

I like the Deka myself, but I've heard good stuff about the MAXX....
 
I have never had any problems with the Maxx, I had one in my previous F150, and have one in my Dodge. I have no experience with Deka but heard they make good quality batteries. Its a toss up I reckon.
 
My Saturn has a Everstart Maxx Group 75 in it. After less than two years, it failed a load test and was replaced under warranty.

I had also recommended the Everstart Maxx to two friends. One of my friends drives an Acura TL and she installed an Everstart Maxx per my recommendation. After a year, the battery tested bad at the local Acura dealer.

I have another friend who is using the Everstart Maxx in his Acura CL. It too, has been starting to get weak and displaying symptoms of failure after a year.

So, three separate cars, three separate batteries with one result-- failure. I'm done with Walmart batteries.
 
I'm on my third NAPA 84 month battery in less than 2 1/2 years (in the same vehicle).

I've had the dealer check the charging system, and to check for parasitic draw (which I've also checked for as well). I know that 'parasitic draw' may not be the proper term, but that's what I know it as. No signs of problems.

Never again will I buy another Exide made NAPA battery.

I like the Deka in my Goldwing. When I finally tire of the frustration of the NAPA battery in my truck, I'll put a Deka in it as well.
 
probably 1 out of every 25 Exide's go the distance.

exide years ago opted to cut corners, so they made the lead cells less dense, so they weren't able to absorb a charge as well.

Exide decided to do this to all of their batteries, including the orbitals, which were a great idea, but just not made right.

exide supposedly "learned their lesson", but never did. They used to be high quality batteries, but their little shortcut, made the batteries last upwards of 2 years, if that.

I like Deka batteries, they're made in PA, and I'm glad Napa finally woke up!

Some have two-year free replacement warranty, others have three-year. Either one is followed by a prorated warranty for up to seven years total. Plus they have stores everywhere. So Walmart batteries are cheap initially, have a good warranty, and have stores everywhere. What's wrong with that?

All three batteries were of the three-year free replacement model.

What's wrong? It's the lack of confidence in the product. I don't want to be stranded in the boonies because I tried to save $20 on a battery. Plus, you may not always catch the failure early.
 
In the Dodge pickup I just bought, the Everstart Maxx tanked on me all of a sudden. My brother and I just returned home and 10 minutes later decided to go to the store for soft drinks and the truck wouldnt start, alarm went crazy, just that quick. Took the battery back to Wallys to see about any warranty being left. The battery was in pro rate status, 4.5 years old. Paid $40 for discounted new one and went on my way. 5 Years for me and I replace a battery anyway based on age. Is you Everstart batteries JC or Exide?

Mine is from Johnson Controls, but I've heard from other TDI owners and one purchased in Kentucky was an Exide. Same Everstart Maxx 94R battery, two different manufacturers. IMO the JC should be better, but is that correct?
 
My Dad bought a Costco battery a year ago. He told me his van was not starting consistently a couple of weeks ago. I checked it out and the battery was toast. He went to Costco and complained that it took forever for them to install. He said they don't replace batteries. They just sell them.

But they installed it for him. I thought they installed batteries. I told him he could have just brought the new one to me to install.
 
I've had nothing but bad luck with Exide wet batteries. Had great luck with an Orbital that was made in Spain. The orbital was sitting on the shelf for a year before I bought it and it still outlasted the warranty whatever that was. 84 months? It lasted 90 months or so.
