Funny/ not funny. With a estimate like this-- all one can do is laugh.... crying will just make things even worse.

Thought this was the best sub forum to post this battery replacement estimate:

Dorman to the rescue!

Speaking for myself: The complete absence of any battery standardization or consumer grade primers on battery production or maintenance are plenary red flags in EVland.

Fleets of vehicles all over the world should have been deployed for years before the consumer was brought into the picture.

Wow. At first glance I thought maybe someone got the decimal point 2 places to the right. Still, $268 for a battery is steep, but is dealer. Then I saw that it was for a Volt. Nope, decimal point is in the right place. And the Volt would also be in the right place. The dealer's used car lot 😁.

While the Volt battery pack is not cheap, a quick google will lead you to the Greentec site, you know, a third party supplier. They offer with three year warranty for a new pack for what must be a first gen Volt or $5500.00 for a reman pack with 18 month warranty. Second gen cars are a grand more for either
A hybrid owner in this situation could also probably find someone local to them willing and able to play wack-a-mole with the pack, identifying and replacing the bad cells.
What one should laugh or cry about is that a franchised dealership actually presented this repair estimate with a straight face and apparently did not explain any alternatives to the car's owner.

right now with dealers, indies, chain stores all routinely charging over list price for parts, I'd try to clip a 10% coupon and get it into the 26's. List price appears to be 12.2k

Easily paid for with the savings on gas over 70k miles.

Regards,
John
I love it!!! $30K worth of gas at $3/gal (local is $2.85) in an new Honda Accord at 40mpg (bigger car than the Volt which also averages 40mpg on just gas)

Takes you, wait for it, 400,000 miles!!

I actually love the Volt, but that's insane! It seems some batteries are: A) Expensive, B) Have a shorter lifespan than we'd like, C) Have a high cost per mile.

It's not all about money. There's the feel good aspect and better parking spaces, less walking

The only good thing about this, IF there is anything good, is that the car can still be used without the propulsion battery.
