I tried that search function and plugged in the name 'carpy' and couldn't find jack. the search cambe back unsuccesful. I tried older than 1 year, nothing.

He hasn't posted in 4 years. Last post was a sling at German Castrol, calling it G-III and then he bailed. If it's G-III, it meets some amazing specs.

Not long after we had another industry guy calling Mobil 1 G-III, but he backed his claims up and still posts. Hmmm.

I was reading his posts just yesterday. weird.

The GC claim he made I think is valid, there are different colors of GC and the non green ones don't perform quite as well IIRC. So it's likely that was what was tested.

Reading the above two posts, I'd like to humor you by concluding that GC and MC-5000 must be about equivalent.

Since many here regard GC as better than M1 that means MC-5000 is superior to M1.

Who would have thought that a bargain oil tops the most expensive bottle at sprawlmart?

I don't use GC or M1, just teasing here.

Mobil Clean 5000 for $11 bucks in a 5qt jug at Walmart is a steal.

I have two jugs on reserve, and I plan on stocking up in the upcoming weeks. So far, it has been running nicely in my Saturn.

With a purolator filter from Advance Auto ($3) I change my oil for $14. This is what an oil change at a shop use to cost in the early 90's.

Ain't that the truth. I took my wife's Infiniti QX4 to get an oil change at the end of November, she's pregnant & it wasn't worth fighting over for me to do it, so I had it done. It was over $30 for an oil change & lube, I couldn't believe it. I feel a lot better doing my Pennzoil Plat. oil changes for my truck, and I save money doing it. I guess that I'm in the wrong biz.

I think your missing the point. Group 3 is a wide catagory, and by using a better base oil, they can skimp on the add pack.

So in the end, its not much better...if any, then a regular conventional oil.

Group 3 base and [censored] add pack
Group 2 or 2+ base and a slightly better add pack

Take your pick, end performance is most likely the same.

It's less likely to have impurities that will cook off and leave deposits. That's one of my main goals with using synthetics, to prevent deposits.

Plus, it should flow quite well in cold weather.

Well comparing the oil PDS of the Mobil Clean 5000 and Pennzoil conventional indicates that it isn't as good as I was expecting it to be. Drat.

I remember seeing a VOA on MC5000 that seemed to show a pretty robust add pack, only thing was the high sodium from the antimony agent was disliked by some due to the tendency to mask head gasket problem or rather give a false positive and make one thing some coolant was getting in the oil.

The Group # of the base oil is not the end all, be all.

It's the total complete package that counts.
