I found this product at walmart on clearance for $5 with $5 rebate so it was a no brainer to buy. There is very little information about it online; this description from bars website is most of it:

Quote

Bar's Leaks Super Transmission Fix is an advanced formula that includes:

Seal conditioners stop current leaks and prevent future instances by protecting and reconditioning seals
Extreme pressure/anti-wear agents provide better metal-to-metal friction properties to stop slipping, jerking, hard shifting, shutter/shudder, which improves shift feel and provides better driving comfort
Advanced cleaning detergents include dispersants and antioxidants to remove sludge and varnish from metal parts
Performance additive booster renews worn bands, controls fluid degradation caused by high temperatures, reduces noise, and prolongs the useful life of your transmission

Any further ideas about what's in it?

I'm doing a pan drop on my ford 5R55S in a few weeks. Planning to change the filter, add lubeguard red and platinum 10oz bottles and fill with amsoil ATF. Kinda conflicted on if I should try this stuff. Trans has 210,000 miles, slight hesitation at times but gets me around great for now.

Ummm, you'll be adding way too many products in your tranny. You want to use LubeGard RED & PLATINUM?
And use BAR's Tranny Fix?

If you're going to use the proper Amsoil ATF for your tranny then you don't need all of these products. IMO, the LG RED is a conditioner and the PLATINUM is to convert a regular ATF with more friction modifier but, I may be wrong on these.

The BAR's(IMO) is for last resort band-aiding when all else fails. Others will chime in with better explanations of these products.

I wouldn't add anything unless you are addressing a specific issue with the transmission and wouldn't add anything to ward off future problems either. If it's working. If you are dealing with shift issues, Lubeguard Red is the only product I would add. No fluid conversion additives like their Platinum either. If you use the correct fluid, it is not needed.

Do you normally change your transmission fluid on some sort of schedule? Like say, every year, every 30,000 miles, or every 50,000 miles? Reason I ask is because at that mileage 210,000 miles, I'd be careful about doing a transmission service...however if you regularly do them? That's good.

As far as the stuff you bought at Walmart...I'd pass. No need for snake oil. Sounds like you're already going to use a lube guard product anyway, no need to add MORE friction modifiers and seal conditioners.

say what you want but I had some transmission shifting issues on my 2001 Silverado (minor slipping) and the Lucas Transmission additive worked! This was about 30K miles ago -- I would say it was $11 well spent!

renews worn bands
reconditioning seals
I am having a hard time already The additive may or may not help . What is the problem?

I used lucas transmission fix in a few vehicles over the years ,,worked in everyone...I guess it all depends on what is wrong with the tranny , I know little to nothing about the inside workings of an automatic tranny

I have only had this car a few months. Previous owner said the transmission had been serviced on schedule, which the first is 150k. I have pulled the drain plug and replaced a few quarts. The fluid looked and smelled pretty good, like being replaced 60k ago was far more likely than never. I have done every other fluid and filter and the car is running 10x what it was when I got it. I am planning to do the pan drop, replace filter and aprox half the fluid and do a smaller drain and fill every 30k or so.

I have 6qts of amsoil multi vehicle atf, 6qts penzoil synthetic mv, 16oz bars super transmission fix and nearly unlimited lubeguard red or platinum. The trans fluid spec is mercon v.

The trans isn't broken, but it doesn't run like new either. There does seem to be some hesitation and possible shuddering. Of course I would like to extend its useful life as long as possible. It would be nice to use up these fluids that will be obsolete once I get a car with a newer atf spec.

"renews worn bands"

That claim alone puts the product in the realm of snake oil. (Kind of like the old crap that claimed to "renew" worn pistons and rings if you put the stuff down your engine's spark plug holes.)
