Bars & Burgers

I think burgers have gotten a bum rap because of our fast food franchises. I always look forward to burgers from bars and other non-fast-food establishments.

Speaking of the alcohol factor, when I was younger, my friends used to grab a six-pack before ordering fast food burgers. There's something about beer and fast food burgers that makes them go well together.

Esp when that whole pink slime additive was released. So gross! I'm sure Squirrel burgers would be better for you.

My family has been going on vacation in Myrtle Beach,SC for over 40 years and they're used to be a burger joint there that was called G.D. Ritzys. Every time we vacationed in Myrtle Beach we would make G. D. Ritzys our first stop...even before we would check into our hotel! IIRC they were headquartered in Cincinatti, Ohio. Several years ago when we arrived, we noticed it had changed names to Berkys. Come to find out the franchise owner had decided to close, or G.D.Ritzys went oob...can't remember, but fortunately a long time employee decided to take over and they still have the same burgers and menu. Does anybody else remember G.D. Ritzys? Has anybody else ate at Berkys? They don't cook your burger until you order it and they are really good! Thanks

My grandpa opened a Tavern back in the 1920's. He ground his own meat for the hamburgers. I remember that grinder as a kid. Nothing else compares. He was very particular how the burgers were cooked. Starting to salivate thinking about it.

Swarmlord, Thanks for the link. Good lookin burgers! Now I know what Puddy is doing for a living... LOL!

Some years ago, I had an awesome burger from "Good Times" in the Denver area. It was one of the best that I had ever eaten from a fast food franchise. I have since been able to sample the burgers at "In and Out" and I must say for the price and to be a chain burger, it was great. I agree with others that the big "4" have given a bad name to burgers in general.

Still in all, pub food is usually very, very good and far surpasses expectations.

Red Robin has surprisingly good service. The wait staff has been consistently excellent and always rate a tip above 20%.

Too bad the burgers at Red Robin are

....meh.

The pubs have good burgers, but not quite what Chef Kenny Mills is cooking up at Chop House Burgers.

If you watch Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, you might have seen the episode with Chop House Burgers. Earl Campbell was there. You know it's gotta' be a good burger if pretty much the Houston Oiler comes to the town that the Dallas Cowboys play in to eat.

Not really a fast food place likes BK or McD ... I usually have to wait about 10 minutes after I placed order to have my burger, after waiting inline for 8-10 minutes. So the total time is about 20 minutes form the time you walk in the door until you get your food.

No kidding. Thinking back, the only time in my life I have been able to tolerate Jack in the Box was during my heaviest drinking years in college.

You sir have not been to one in Illinois! lol

In-N-Out is not that good.

I honestly prefer Five Guys. And I prefer a good pub burger to that.

When you find a really good Whataburger, it's as good as anything I've had at In-N-Out. Fries aren't as good at Whataburger. Whataburger has some consistency issues too. Really good ones are really good. Really bad ones and you might as well have eaten at McWendysKing.
